What are the best anti-Bush songs?
Just saw the depressing headline on "Latest Breaking News": "For Unemployed, Wait For New Work Grows Longer". And I wonder: is there a 21st century equivilant to "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime"? How about some catchy phrases that will immortalize Bush's great leadership, along the lines of "Hoovervilles"?

2. This is my favorite though it doesn't mention bush specifically
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 08:44 PM by Bouncy Ball
it's on the Rock Against Bush CD and it's by the RX Bandits. The lyrics are AWESOME and the song is even better.

"Overcome (The Recapitulation)"

We've had enough
We've had enough
We've had enough of the politicians
We've had enough yeah
Of these politician's wars
All we need right now is love
We've had enough of these military scoreboards
What we need right now is love, come on
We've had enough of these politician's wars
All we need right now is love
We've had enough of these military scoreboards
All we need right now is love
We've had enough of these politician's wars
All we need right now is love
We've had enough of these military scoreboards
All we need right now is love

Turn it up
The future is held in the hands
Who write the textbooks
Ignorance is bred when falsified thinking is taught
To the youth instead of
Past mistakes and mind elevation,
Like the graves that manifest destiny has created
So we can build our
Capitalist consumer based economy,
To build, market,
And sell commodities we don't need
But we are trained to believe like celebrity imaging
Well I'm here to take my feelings back and I hope That you will be with me

I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all screaming.
Ahhhhhhhhh,
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all singing together,
Ooooohhhhhh
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all screaming.
Ahhhhhhhhh
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all singing together,
Ahhh,

I can't wait for the day
When I hear us all screaming,
HERE COMES THE REVOLUTION.
When every race color
And creed of militant human beings stand up
With fists together for substance and true meaning
Because right now we got our feet stuck in cement
We're too caught up in
A material status quo punishment
And one thing is for sure
And that's the sun will always set,
Darling you can bet our moon is quite the opposite
So baby take a axe to your makeup kit
Set ablaze the billboards and their advertisements
Love with all your hearts and never forget
How good it feels to be alive
And strive for your desire
Just cause you can't see
Your cage doesn't mean that you are free
When there are laws against nature
But its ok for you to be
Addicted to over the counter prescriptions
And magazines dictate all our human relations

I'm not buying, no I'm not giving in
To a culture that objectifies all of our women
I'm not buying, no I'm not consuming
The apathetic dribble on the news media's chin
I'm not buying, no I'm not giving in
The lies that are sold through textbooks to children
I'm not buying, no I'm not consuming
Cause the positive will
Always overcome the negative right

And we stay inside, its right outside,
We stand in line
We all enjoy the fences to keep it at bay
But I'm not giving in

3. I'm quite partial to
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 08:48 PM by Crunchy Frog
Idiot Son of an Asshole myself by NOFX.

http://www.ericblumrich.com/idiot.html

Edit, added lyrics:

He's not smart, a C student
And that's after buying his way into school
Beady eyes, and he's kinda dyslexic
Can he read? No one's really quite sure
He signs stuff and he executes people
Maybe that's why, he doesn't have any friends
Cocaine and a little drunk driving
Doesn't matter, when you're the Commander in Chief.

Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole

Put on some make-up, turn on the 8-Track,
I'm putting a week back on the shelf,
Suddenly I'm the President, of the United States,
But then I woke up, and realized I'm still me.

He's too dumb, to eat pretzels, apparently smart enough to fix an election.
Moved boldly into the White House,
but most people voted against him.
He likes naps, He really likes naptime, A couple of naps and then a nap and then he's ready for bed,
He may be from Bush descent, but he's always gonna be the unpresident.

Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole

He's our president!

4. My only problem with that song
is that it can't be played on the public airwaves.

Myself, I want to be the one to compose an anti-Bush song that will go all the way to number 1 so that it will never be forgotten. (Stevie Wonder hit number 1 with an anti-Nixon once.)

5. "Bu$h Leaguer" by Pearl Jam
Featuring the immortal line: "He was born on third, and thinks he hit a triple".

From their 2003 effort "Riot Act".

8. OT: is their new greatest hits worth getting?
I have no PJ albums, and I considering their greatest hits CD. But I leery of compilations today, especially after getting burned with a Jackson Browne comp and a Dire Straits best-of that both lacked crucial, obvious songs.

9. I haven't seen that
I share your skepticism of best of's... If I could see a list of its songs, I could tell you what I think.

(I have all of their regular releases, and a few of the "bootleg" live albums too)

14. That's goddamned good
Very comprehensive, although remixing some of those could be dicey.

Still, it gets some obscurities you can't get easily elsewhere, especially "I Got Id" from their collaboration with Neil Young back in '95.

11. I'd skip their Greatest Hits album and pick up one of their live releases
The State College, PA release is three discs and in the opinion of most fans their best live collection:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009ZYCA/qid=1105409011/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-3099540-9267028?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

If you like Pearl Jam's mellower tracks, Live at Benaroya Hall is a good choice.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002F9BL2/103-3099540-9267028?v=glance&s=music&vi=samples#disc_1

Either one will make you more of a Pearl Jam fan, then you'll go out and buy all of their albums and not need that silly Greatest Hits. :)

10. Pearl Jam's "Bushleager"
I bought Pearl Jam's album last year, Riot Act, just so I could hear the anti-Bush song, "Bushleager".

Best anti-Reagan song was by Pink Floyd in the album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" - 'Yet Another Movie'. Highly recommended.

18. "Geroge" by moe.
not official lyrics, as the song has not appeared on an album (yet), and the lyrics have changed since it was debuted last summer.

It doesn't give you the right to
Co-opt my existence
So anything that you might do
Feeds into my own resistance
Could you be a little more concerned
w/ the simple things like my life
maybe think a little less short term
I've got enough going on in my life- & I don't want to get
burned

I'm sorry that you were not the teacher's pet
I'm sorry about the things you haven't accomplished yet
I'm sorry that life is so hard for you
But it's not my problem

So maybe you've got issues
But then who doesn't, it's the in thing
& maybe we'll miss you
when the new guy comes in next spring
& maybe we won't I don't
expect that you'd be sorely missed
& maybe you should phone home
& tell him that your therapist was wrong

Anything that you might do
Might just get misunderstood
& even then when you try to
tell us everything is all good
Could you be a little more concerned
w/ the simple things like your life
maybe think a little less short term
You've got enough going on in your life- & we all got burned

Wash your, hands clean of your self, maniac
Step down

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent

To be only one

Hey megalomaniac

21. Shoot The Dog
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 12:01 AM by donheld
My beloved George Michael

GTi, Hot Shot,
He parks it there, just to piss me off.
Bullyboy, gonna show ya who’s tough,
I’m gonna shoo the dog, I’m gonna shoot the dog

It’s party time, everyday
I spent Saturday night on Novocaine
Called the pigs, but nobody came
I’m gonna shoot the dog, I’m gonna shoot the dog (come on ladies)

Nine nine nine gettin’ jiggy
People did you see that fire in the City?
It’s like we’re fresh out of democratic,
Gotta get yourself a little something semi-automatic yeahh

That’s why I’m always gettin’ stoned yeah
That’s why I’m out there havin’ fun again
Good puppy, good puppy
Rolling on over

Mustapha
Mazeltov,
The Gaza Boys,
All that holy stuff.
I got the feelin’ when it al goes off,
They’re gonna shoot the dog, they’re gonna shoot the dog

So, Cherie my dear,
Could you leave the way clear for sex tonight?
Tell him
“Tony Tony Tony, I know that your horny, but there’s
somethin bout that Bush ain’t right”

Nine nine nine gettin’ jiggy
People did you see that fire in the City?
It’s like we’re fresh out of democratic,
Gotta get yourself a little something semi-automatic yeahh

That’s why I’m always gettin’ stoned yeah
That’s why I’m out there havin’ fun again
Good puppy, good puppy
Rolling on over for The Man...

The Ayatollah’s gettin’ bombed yeah,
See Seargeat Bilko havin fun again,
Good puppy, good puppy
Rollin on over for The Man...

I believe, I believe what the old man said
Tough I know that there’s no lord above
I belive in me, I believe in you
And you know I believe in love
I believe in truth though I lie a lot
I fell the pain from the push and shove
No matter what you put me through
I’ll still believe in love
And I say

Cherie Baby, Spliff up
I wanna kick back mama
And whatch the world cup whith ya baby
Yeah, that’s right!
We’re gettin freeky tonight
Stay whith me tonight
Let’s have some fun while Tony’s stateside
It’s gonna be alright
It’s gonna be alright
See Tony dancing whith Dubya
Don’t you wanna know why?
