This "Essential Bruce Springsteen" disc is a trove of campaign theme songs
I'm amazed. Maybe you have it yourselves, it's the 3 disc set with a picture of a bearded Springsteen on the front in black and white.

So yeah, about the campaign theme songs... lessee...

1. Born to Run (high energy and a fun play on words)
2. The Promised Land
3. The Rising
4. Land of Hope and Dreams

Then of course there's "No Retreat, No Surrender", but that's not included in this particular set. Not bad for one artist.

I guess as a music fan and a political junkie I'm a little disappointed that the two don't cross paths very often, but damn... there's enough good music here to run a nationwide campaign...

1. No "Born in the USA"?
The one Reagan had the nerve to appropriate till Bruce made him stop?

BTW, are these live performances or a compilation from previous albums?

2. It's a little of both.
Mosts are compilations, but a few tracks are live. I don't know why Born in the USA would be anyone's campaign song. It's all about war and rejection. I guess if the only lyrics you know are the title, it's ok, but otherwise...

4. I know, it was so ironic
that the repubs would seize upon that song, about how Vietnam wrecked a man's life.

3. "No Surrender"...
I got "Born in the USA" (with "No Surrender") and when I listened to it I almost cried on "No Surrender." It was the first time I heard it since the campaign. I seriously can't get enough of that song. It's become my new theme.

5. I always loved that song.
I couldn't believe when a politician I loved picked a song I loved by an artist I loved. I thought it was a sign. If it was I don't want to know what the fates were trying to tell me. :-(
