Poll question: greatest actor presently performing
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 12:38 AM by pres2032
i started a second poll, check that one too. i'll take the top vote winners from both polls and do a combined final poll later.

link to poll 2:

OK, since DU only allows for 10 spots per poll and there are so many great actors, you can ignore the poll, just tell us who you think is the best.

Harry Dean Stanton
Harry Dean Stanton has never turned in less than a brilliant performance in any film I've seen him in. He's a consumate professional and makes any movie he's associated with a much better flick.

16. Albert Finney
Rocked my young world in "Tom Jones" as a young man.
Can bring me to tears in no time flat as a great dramatic actor.
Can do Williams or Shakespeare in his sleep.
I really believe there is no match for him today.

20. How could ANYONE put Tom Cruise in such a list (and omit Sean Penn)??
:puke:

Penn, DeNiro, Depp, Hackman, Hoffman ... gads!
Right now I'll toss a coin and say Depp.
Any one of them might get my vote.

Tom Cruise isn't fit to shine their Oscars.

22. Paul Newman
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 12:13 AM by hickman1937
He does more great acting in his pauses than any living actor. To me the greatest actors were as adept at comedy as drama. Like Michael Caine said, drama is fun, comedy is terrifying.

36. Nobody ever mentions Morgan Freeman...
I could never pick just one actor or actress as "greatest"; but there are a few that I've always found to be outstanding, and Freeman's one of them.
