In New York, they seem to think it is a matter of life or death that they do not let you change lanes.

In some states where I have driven, people often neglect to use turn signals.

In New York, the turn signal is actually used as a tool of misdirection and deception.

Someone will slow down, signal that they are going to change lanes to the right, and then suddenly shoot off to the left.

I have seen this nowhere else.

I suspect that the World Trade Center was attacked at least in part out of retaliation for the way New Yorkers drive.

12. I live in Massachusetts, and our drivers are pretty awful

1) It's open-season on Pedestrians.
2) Many of the pedestrians deserve it.
3) The roads in Boston are so confusing, it's hard NOT to be a bad driver because you often don't know where you're going.
4) Rotaries! Nobody knows how to use a rotary!
5) They think owning an SUV means you can ignore rain, snow, and ice and drive normally.
6) They drive like maniacs.

New York, I believe, is worse, because they share many of the above traits, plus the added factor of an apparently malicious intent when they're behind the wheel.

People in Massachusetts are CRAZY drivers intent on doing whatever they want.

People in New York are HOMICIDAL drivers intent on deliberately making others miserable.

7. Ohio

I grew up in the Mid-west and move to Ohio a few years ago.
It blows my mind the way these people drive.
The first three cars on a red light think it is OK to go
Passing on the shoulder at 4 way stops to make a right hand turn
Last night, I freaked an 18 wheeler out. I was sitting at a light waiting for it to change, I noticed the yellow had come on for the cross traffic and I also saw the truck coming from my left. I knew he had no intention of stopping, in fact he started to blow his horn to warn me, So I started to pull out just to see what he would do.
Since there was no traffic from the right, he freaked out and swerved over in the on-coming lane.
I blew my horn back at him as he passed.

Every time I see an idiot move on the road, I say, "I see they got their license in Ohio"

13. The most critical factors in determining this are:

1. States with little or no public transportation.
2. States with a lot of traffic.
3. States that have a high percentage of immigrant population. I'm sorry if that sounds unfair, but it's true if only because immigrants have less experience driving in the US.

So if I factor all that in, my answer would be....

Texas.

14. Nothing compares to the Third World

Driving in the US is easy compared to the insanity in the Third World. Years of Boston driving conditioned me to all manner of aggressive, rude driving, but I had no idea how bad it was til I visited the Caribbean. I've been told by other travelers that many other countries, esp. in Asia, are far, far worse.
