Seattle's Sue Bird replaces Payton on NikeTown wall

Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird will replace former Sonic Gary Payton on NikeTown's 30-foot-high billboard in downtown Seattle, ending Payton's three-year stint as the store's public face. Nike declared Bird the winner yesterday after tallying more than 3,000 votes cast this summer by NikeTown customers.

The runner-up was Sonics guard Ray Allen, who came to Seattle in February as part of the trade that sent Payton to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bird, 22, is the first female athlete to be featured on the billboard, which appears above the front door of the NikeTown building at Sixth Avenue and Pike Street.
