I survived a head-on collision today
Don't ask me anything, because I'll probably be too sore to respond.

Just wanted to say I came out of it sore as hell (both knees are swollen and my chest and arms hurt), but fortunately I'm alive and so is the other person. Thank God I had just dropped my son off at school, so he was not in the car with me.

The other person was at fault...pulled out in front of me as I reached the intersection doing about 50 mph.

It's the freakiest thing in the world to see yourself rushing toward another car and being unable to do nothing about it but wait for the impact.

:hi:

2. I'm just relieved that you're all right...
It (the experience) IS kind of like being suspended in space for a second or two, with time slowing down, as well...

But I'm just relieved you're going to be all right..keep up with how your knees--and back--feel over the next few days, though.

B-)

5. Have you already seen a doctor?
If you haven't, you should, even if you feel no other significant pain than soreness. You might have some joint or nerve damage that you won't feel for days but might be picked up by a checkup.

6. Not So Freaky
It's happened to me several times on a motorcycle also their fault.

I'm glad it happened after you dropped your son off and that you're not seriously hurt.

Hugs your way and please keep us posted after you stop shaking...okay?

me too. Hit a deer head on down in Kansas and really rocked my world. (Didn't do much for the old Moto Guzzi either.) Cool to survive ain't it?

Thank God you are alive. That was frightening. You will be black and blue for a while and the pain will not be pretty, but you are still with us.

8. Arm Pain Sucks
My arms still hurt from a similar accident I had 3 1/2 years ago. How frightening for you...glad your son was not with you. You'd think that dealing with insurance companies in auto accident would be easier - NOT SO - You will most likely have to get an attorney down the road, I did -

10. Hire a personal injury lawyer NOW.
Go to the chiropractor tomorrow and document EVERYTHING. GO to the DOCTOR as well, tomorrow, first thing in the morning.

You will be SO SORE tomorrow.

Went through this a year ago. I ONLY had a whiplash and I STILL feel it a lot. My hand is now riddled with arthritic lumps from the nerve damage from neck/nerve pinched whiplash.

I'm STILL waiting to settle with the insurance co. It's hard to find a decent personal injury lawyer, so ask for referrals from friends and so on. Make sure you follow up with the police department for the accident report ASAP.

SO glad you lived through it.. what a lucky day for you.

11. Happened to me twice in a year.
Almost identical situation, each time.

Mt advice would be not to take it lightly. As I am learning from experience (mostly my wife's injuries), you can seem nothing more than banged up, but end up having problems that impact your life forever.

See your doctor to follow up from whatever the E-room said (they missed the fact that I had a large gash on my head and my wife had a broken wrist). They're just making sure you're not going to die.

Be VERY aware of head and neck problems. They can get worse with time. My wife is never withour back and neck pain, and it even turns into a limp sometimes b/c of spinal damage. Plus she has premanent jaw, vision and memory problems.

If your doctor recommends going to a specialist, DO SO. Keep records and, if need be, get a lawyer.

The whole "whiplash" thing is a bit of a stereotype, but high speed accidents will almost always leave you with some kind of back/neck injury, and it may not be apparent at first.

12. I'm so glad it was not worse
and that your child was not with you. Do you have family or friends who can help out for a few days? Now is the time to ask for help. I couldn't get out of bed for a few days and I am so thankful for those who brought over meals and took my young children to school. All the best, and the pain does go away. Ice is your friend today.

14. Glad you're in one piece
But take the advice of those who say "get a doctor and a lawyer NOW!"

Soft-tissue injuries (i.e., whiplash) generally take a while to reach full agony (and it will be agony, i'm sorry to say). They take MUCH longer to heal than a broken bone - just like sprains/strains take longer - same type of thing, just your whole body is a sprain.

I've been in those super-slo-mo waiting for the crunch situations, and it's terrifying. (Barely managed to stop before hitting a van with a kid in the passenger seat - I can still see his eyes go wide as his dad pulled out in front of me.)

If possible, write out an account of what happened as soon as you can, while your memory is fresh. This will help preserve it in long-term memory and will provide a contemporaneous record of the event. If unable to write, get someone to dictate to, or make an audio tape.

Keep us posted, and best of luck with your recovery.

..that split second you see it coming is bizarre! Such a frightening moment that hangs in time.

I came out of it with 2 broken ankles and I'm lucky it wasn't worse.

Thank God you are ok.. and good your son wasn't there. That is something a kid doesn't need.

 sending you good thoughts!
