2. Agreed
it really isn't even close. Depp is becoming a super star now and Downey Jr. is less popular now than he's ever been.

7. Depp is a better actor --
but that has nothing to do with popularity, as we all know.

3. Depp..
I would have to say Depp is better. Depp's acting is just a bit more convincing to me no matter what character he's playing.

4. I can't vote...
cuz they're two of my favorite actors.

I think Downey is amazing - unfortunately due to his personal problems, we haven't gotten to see enough of him.

And I love Depp - he ALWAYS interesting to watch and picks some really good projects.

It's a tie!

5. Chaplin was his best work
I agree that Johnny Depp Is a better actor, but I disagree on Robert Downey JR being a horrible actor.

He did a great job In the movie Chaplin.

6. Downey and Depp
Downey is fantastic...Yes, his personal life has gotten in the way of his work, but it seems as if he is on the right track now. I was at the movies a few days ago and saw trailers for two films with him coming out within the next month. His career is hardly over. He does not just act in a role, he becomes the role. He makes it look so easy and effortless. Plus, he is a liberal, so I like him by default, lol.

As for Depp, He is great, but with his recent and upcoming films, I think that he has sold out to Disney and the Bruckheimer bunch. "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" is one film that DOES NOT need to be re-made.

w/ Robert Downey Jr a close 2nd. I think they're both very different though.

Johnny pays more attention to building the character through mannerisms (POTC, Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, Benny & Joon), facial expressions (Ed Wood, Gilbert Grape, Sleepy Hollow), , and certainly wardrobe (Ed Wood, OUATIM, POTC, as well as delivering his lines in an honest way (Gilbert Grape, OUTIM, Benny & Joon). Besides, he looks damn hot in angora sweaters! ;-)

Robert is more of a natural line deliverer, and no so much with the distinct .... personalities, shall we say. Chaplin was good, but his best movie IMO is "Less Than Zero". That's honest work right there friends and neighbors.

I have to call Johnny the better actor here because he has been able to work and hone his craft all this time. He's gone out of his way to seek out the hard parts, and in the case of POTC, make them hard. I'm glad he's finally getting the respect and notice as an actor that we Deppheads have known for years. :D Robert has some ground to make up. I wish him well.

As for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this will be another JD Tim Burton collaboration, and nothing like WW&TCF with Gene Wilder. It won't even be a musical. So there. JD has famously said he would have sex with armadillos if Burton asked him to. :D :loveya: JD!

10. Both do horrible British accents...
Downey in Chaplin and Restoration, Depp in From Hell--though he did do a little better channelling Keith Richards in Pirates...

11. Frank Abberline
was better than Mary Kelly in From Hell. Heather Graham was out of her depth. She should stick to Austin Powers films. LOL!

14. No argument here...
A while back, I posted a poll on the worst movie accent. I think it received over a hundred replies. It seems that I'm not the only one who can't stand shitty accents!
