I played a character when I first got here, myself--my original username was "George W Bush" and I always posted as him. On my first big thread some people told me off for being corny, but enough others liked it for the thread to eventually end up on the homepage: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2066920

Still, I knew "George W Bush" would have to appear in small doses, otherwise even the people who liked the act would get sick of it. The more I read of DU, though, the more times I wanted to get involved and post without always playing a character, and the routine became too limiting. Plus, after the election, there was a lot of understandable sadness here and any posting by a username like "George W Bush", even as a joke, would have been in poor taste.

So, when the chance to change my username during the name change amnesty came, I grabbed it with both hands.

Anyway, I hope you stick around, especially if you don't overdo the "I'm Bill Lumbergh" thing.
