Do you view society as Us vs. Them? |
|
Granted, there's a lot of Them out there, but not everybody, in my opinion, is a Them. Some have a bit of Us in them. And some of Us might have some Them in them. And there's still quite a few that are neither Us nor Them.
Capiche?

1. I didn't feel that way until "the great uniter" was crowned... |
|
but now I really do feel that way. I come from a family of republicans and we can't even discuss politics at this point - it's just too heated.

it doesn't matter what you think of "Them", what matters is the results of "Them" voting on their single issues, and the results of Them being wilfully ignorant.
I'm not all hung up in how we're all part of a continuum; the fact of the matter is The They does things every day that impact the environment around me, my personal life, my bedroom, my assets, my freedoms and civil rights, and my security.
Damn straight it's us and them.

There are people and then they're are abusers dominator's con men and authoritarians who suffer from an illness. An illness that happens to destroy societies when these people are given trust, power secrecy and money. These dominator's gravitate to positions of power because they want to have control and be above the laws citizens adhere to.Bullies dominator's,sadists, authoritarians, con men,are what makes societies sick.
Problem is also with non domineering people. The non dominant are conditioned into obeyance by bullies from day one, they are cowed by power these sick bully people use and they either by stand, give them more power money and control as if that will change them, as they deny what they do to a society hurts most of the people in it ,and when they get hurt, they do not rebel immediately and turn tables on the authoritarians and take back their power, they wait until it gets to a critical mass them all hell breaks loose. Because they suffer under learned helplessness they can't even see it.When the non dominant lose it in masses there is revolution, but then chaos fores the masses to seek leaders. And the whole oppression by authority begins again
The only way out is to NEVER give trust to another person without them earning it,and remembering you can take your trust(power) back at any time, and NEVER obeying a leader just because he claims to be one..And refusing to by stand when a bully or authoritarian and whatever system they devise to control people tries to dominate a person,a community or government.
Freedom requires eternal vigilance against authoritarians, abusers and dominator's and con men.

7. I think too many times "us" and "them"... |

is used as a tool by certain people in power (Evangelicals, Talk Radio) to distract people from what's really going on. It's not enough to get us motivated about a certain issue, we have to be absolutely positively livid about the issue, and need an enemy ("them" in this case) to focus on. So while we're all sitting here quibbling about Abortion and Gay rights having been convinced that these two things will bring the downfall of society if not the rapture itself, they're sitting around figuring out how much more of our money they can screw us out of.
There definitely is an ideological divide in this country, but I seriously do not believe it is as extreme as some people would have you think. You'd be surprised how much common ground you can find, when both sides aren't busy getting whipped up into a needless frenzy.

I didn't feel that way. Now I must admit to feeling that this country is split between the "Us" and "Them" mentality. I have two friends who are Repugs - one of whom voted for Kerry this time. I like them aside from their politics but I must admit that when we are together I am thinking about their political backgrounds. I never used to feel this as fiercely as I do now.
