Remember playing dodge ball in grade school? |
|
If that wasn't a form of sadism for some people, I don't know what was.

I LOVE that movie and want to see it on stage when it comes to Detroit.
It's almost scary how Ricki Lake looks like she really could be Divine's daughter

I remember how much they used to smile when someone got it real good. Especially the hippie types.

I was never the first one hit (I'd always eventually get hit), but if I had the ball, I had no chance of getting anyone out.

20. Kick-ball v. Nerf ball |
|
We played with nerf soccer balls mostly, but I know to which type you are referring. The kick-ball type, if it was deflated just enough, could take someone's head off. No bounce, it would just muff right into their face. ha!

13. Dodgeball was the only game I was good at as a kid. |
|
I couldn't throw for crap, but man could I dodge. Usually I would be the last one in the circle for a very, very long time, and the teacher would just call the game and have us start over (we played in a circle, instead of on teams, so that everyone could gang up on a few kids nice and proper).

teacher...This is the same guy I called a derogatory name once jokingly. He didn't think it was funny. Needless to say, I curled up in the fetal position and awaited my latest head trauma. Ahhh, good times. Kill ball and friends.

17. I remember our middle school gym teacher would always start a |
|
game among us when she had to leave and do something else. Leave and do something else...can you IMAGINE? It was a nightmare. Not the kind of nightmare that required therapy, the kind that is a wee bit funny with the passage of time. One time she left and a jock got hit so hard by a frightened bookworm she flipped over the horse and ended up crying like a baby. Ah, that was great and I'd have laughed if she hadn't knocked the wind out of me with a ball to the gut just moments before.

21. Dodge ball was awesome! |
|
That seemed to be almost everyone's favorite at my elementary school. Everyone would beg the gym teacher to let us play dodge ball. If we were good at participating in the planned activity, the gym teacher would usually let us play dodge ball toward the end of class as a reward.

23. God yes....those were terrifying days.. walking into the |
|
gym..seeing all of the red balls on the floor and just knowing it was dodgeball day. I fucking hated it. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been getting abused at home and was already full of bruises. It would be kind of cool to break into my old P.E. teachers house and wake him up to the sight of a red ball above his face saying...wake up it's dodgeball time! Bonk! That guy was suuuuccch a dick!
Oh and btw...I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell. :D

I missed out on getting to play the violent type more than a couple of times.
I remember playing it in fourth or fifth grade in our coed P. E. class of about sixty students, using like thirty balls, and it being kind of a riot. We played it much differently than the type I played a couple of times in junior high, and the type played in the movie Dodge Ball and a memorable episode of the show "Freaks and Geeks."
I remember in sixth grade my P. E. teacher (he was a big jerk... just thinking of that; no reason to mention it, really) telling us before we went home for Xmas that during the next semester we were going to do wrestling and play dodge ball. I was a short, slightly chubby, clueless sixth grader at the time and kinda worried about doing wrestling in there, not even thinking about the implications of "grown-up" dodge ball. I mentioned it to my dad (who happened to be the principal) and for some reason we ended up never doing dodge ball or wrestling that next semester. haha So there were at least a couple advantages to having to spend junior high with your dad as the principal. I didn't much appreciate the situation at the time, though!
Sorry for that ramble... haha

28. Missing rule from the movie: making a basket = team gets to come in |
|
When we were young, if you could hit the opposing rim from half court, everyone on your team who was out got to come in. When we were older, everyone who was out on your team got to come back if you made a basket. If you were the last one in and did either of those it was the coolest thing ever.
