Choose: Drink less or buy cheaper booze? |
|
I'm leaning towards the "cheaper booze" thing, but I don't wanna be the girl with the Boon's Farm.

I'd rather drink a little less on a budget than drink swill. I likes my Wild Turkey though, but can sub Crown and Jack when desperate.

Are mudslides good (apologies to CA)? I don't like rum, but I remember having one once that was like a milkshake--did that bartender make it wrong?
We should all probably drink less, in the interest of health and all that.

Rum has no business in a mudslide. Its not cheap but it is my favorite drink right now.
Make it with about one-half vodka, one-fourth Kahlua, and one-fourth Bailey's Irish Creme. You might want to fiddle with the recipe to get the right balance.
And, yes, it does taste like a milkshake! It's hard not to chug it.
I'm gonna go make one right now.

I was considering getting the ready made mudslide--but I think it has rum in it. :(
Thanks so much for the vodka recipe--sounds much better. Mmm.

.... you leave me puzzled since you mention "booze" and "wine".
Anyway....
If it's beer, I say get cheaper and drink the same amount. If it's wine, I say get cheaper and drink the same amount.
If it's really booze, it depends on the booze. Never drink cheap tequila, its horrible. Some cheap vodkas are ok, some will kill ya. Some cheap gin is ok, some will kill ya. Whiskey/bourbon, cheap stuff will kill ya :)

20. You can make cheap vodka taste great by running it through a Brita filter. |
|
Crystal Light lemonade masks gross vodka if you don't have a Brita filter.
Cheap gin can be masked well with ginger ale. You can make a double strength gin and giner that tastes as strong as a one shot gin and tonic.

That brings back some college for me. (Well, I'm only 25, so it's not that hard.. but still.)
We would always get 2 kegs of, like, Killians, then fill the rest with Bug Light. No one ever said anything.

It's nice to see someone in my age-range here. I've never been a big fan of Natty Ice, but I do have the uncanny ability to drink whatever's in the keg.
The plus side of being a girl may be that I was always offered shots really early. :)

I always hated going drinking with guys that couldn't hold their liquor. Like, I'm a girl and can really hold my booze, but when a guy I was around got drunk.. well, he "just had too much".. whether it was 10 shots or nothing at all.

43. BTW here's a good reason to avoid the real cheap stuff... |
|
Apparently, the origin of the term rotgut doesn't have anything to do with how it affects the human digestive system. "Rotgut" whiskey came about in the 1800's when medical schools would try to get cadavers for research and teaching., and the cadavers were usually packed in whiskey barrels with cheap distilled spirits. Students who didn't have any money would, if they wanted a drink, strain out the floating bits of organs left by the cadavers... Hence, "rotgut whiskey". Stick with the expensive stuff.
