Poll question: How do you feel about Bill Maher? |
|
The last thing I remember from his show is him begging us to re-select Bush so that he could have topics for his show. Rubbed me the wrong way, but at the same time, I probably will watch his show next season. In other words, I don't like him, but I like his show!

1. I'm not sure he's that much of a friend of liberals. |
|
1) His friendship and defense of Ann Coulter. That's inexcusible. Period.
2) I find he has a libertarian streak. That is not compatible with liberal, progressive thinking. I think he tilts to the right sometimes.

5. I think he used to be libertarian, and strongly so... |
|
...but I think in the past few years, he's been moving left. This past season on his HBO show, he's almost always been arguing the leftist position. He definitely hates Bush, though.
The Ann Coulter thing, Jesus, I don't know...

6. I suspect he gets disenchanted with whoever is in power |
|
so he takes on both sides. He has been a sensible voice against Bush so I give him high marks for that and he had some great lines on his show this year.
So I'd say I like him but I'm not gonna marry him. I think he would've given Kerry a honeymoon of a year or so but then would have bitch about ______ .

He also said that he thought if he could pick anybody to be president of the US, he'd pick Colin Powell, and that he thought Ashcroft saved us from further terror attacks by locking up Muslims with no trial.

I'm pretty sure it was one of his many appearances on Larry King.

10. He has his flaws .. but |
|
He never has Ann Coulter on his show anymore, and he constantly makes fun of Bush. He did (tounge-in-cheek) want people to vote for Bush, only to make his own job easier.
I do not agree with his stance on racial profiling (he's for it), his view on islam or how to treat prisoners, but .. hmm wait, why did I like him again?
Oh right... he's honest! And he makes a solid case for most of his views, so that I can understand why he would feel that way, even though I don't buy it myself.
But he sticks up for gays, womens rights and recreational drug-use, plus his comments are often so politically incorrect that you either just gasp, laugh yourself silly, agree with him or all three. :)
He's well liked in Europe (I think), but not well-known.

14. I like his point of view but I don't like the presentation |
|
I think he helps fuel some of the backlash stuff. Jon Stewart is funny without coming off as feeling superior, whic i think Maher does.

15. Bill Maher is a celebrity... |
|
that being said, he will say and do anything for a laugh and a career. Look at the degenerate brown-nosing Dennis Miller. 'nuff said.
