Bad news, another actress has died.
Let's all :smoke: one in tribute...

Thelma White, 94; Actress Known for 'Reefer Madness'
By Elaine Woo
Times Staff Writer

January 13, 2005

Thelma White, whose portrayal of a hard-boiled addiction queen in the 1936
movie "Reefer Madness" was largely forgotten until the film resurfaced in
the 1970s as a cult classic, died of pneumonia Tuesday at the Motion Picture
and Television Hospital in Woodland Hills. She was 94.

Born in 1910, White was a carnival performer as a toddler, progressed to
vaudeville, radio and movies, then worked as an agent and producer for many
years. During her heyday as an actress, she appeared alongside such
legendary performers as W.C. Fields, Will Rogers, Red Skelton and Jack
Benny. What secured her place in Hollywood history, however, was a movie so
awful that its memory still made her shudder 50 years later.

1. That's too bad
But hey, she made it to 94. That seems like a good age to pack it in.

3. Ever see "Reefer Madness?"
I saw two versions, both were hilarious.

The first was just the film, it was totally over the top.

The second time it was in a movie with Cheech and Chong toking up while watching it, that was really funny.

7. I love it
I own the film - it's so damn funny. Even my dad thinks it's great and he is very anti-pot.

2. "Play it faster, faster!"
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"

The piano scene in Reefer Madness is probably the most manic, over-the-top scene in cinematic history.

5. "Mae's" gone- that's sad.
I just picked up the colorized release of "Reefer Madness" with commentary by Mike Nelson (MST3K), and I like it better than the original.

The Pagan Preacher
I don't turn the other cheek.

8. Proves their point
Reefer ended up taking this woman's life. They tried to tell the world how bad pot was and now the woman is gone.

10. Exactly! She smoked pot... then she died.
That's a fact, and no one can refute it!

12. My "Reefer Madness" story:
I actually saw it in a neighborhood theater in the late 40s. For some reason they ran it after the Saturday afternoon double feature B-movies cowboy shoot-em-ups. I had no idea what it was about.

MANY years later I had my first VCR. In K-Mart one day I saw a rack of cheap movies and there was Reefer Madness. I bought it.

One evening a bunch of my daughter's friends were at our house. Late teens. I thought they'd get a kick out of this campy old movie and put it in the tape deck.

Years later I found out they thought I was serious about the movie's message and was some kind of narc. They still talk about it.
