here's my favorite coinage of my own li'l brain

OREO HAIKU

twist apart to scrape your teeth
crunch the cookie halves
dip in milk but do not drop

~

dunk a cookie whole
shove it in your mouth and chew
chug some milk after

~

stand on scale and see
what havoc oreos have wrought
jeans no longer fit

~

make oreos disappear
do not follow down toilet
no more oreos

~

My father was a big fan of getting out in the world. I have long been fascinated by the sounds animals make. Loons, steam locomotives and wolves were a big part of my education.
