1. I had lasik....20/20 both eyes now but still need reading glasses

3. Why did you have the lasik? Were you able to read comfortably before

you had it? Just asking because I only need readers..but I'm hearing people saying that if you just need reader glasses you should definitely get the Lasik. If you wore glasses before though, there's a trade off. What you couldn't see before gets fixed with Lasik but you need glasses for what you COULD see before after it. :shrug:

12. My vision was 20/100, 20/200 before

I'd worn glasses for 33 years, had bifocals, and the doc said I should get trifocals. The glasses irritated me increasingly, but I couldn't function without them. I'd fall asleep reading once and ruin a pair forever (the opticians helpers would bend them back into shape but it was never quite right).

My mom died in 1999 and I had a small inheritance from the sale of her house so I decided to spend a little of it and give myself the gift of real sight. Now I keep a pair of $5 reading glasses but only need them for reading. Was it necessary? No. Would I do it again? I'm honestly not sure. I find myself continuing to wear reading glasses even when I don't need them as a crutch.

But its nice to be able to wash dishes and stare out the kitchen window at chameleons climbing on garden plants and bird nests way up in trees. Its sort of nice to finally be able to REALLY see.

13. Apparently its an "aging" thing....The reading glasses help me

to focus. The doc told me beforehand that I could expect that.

It isn't perfect, but my vision is so much better than it has been since I was a little kid. I had monovision done, which takes some getting used to. I'd do it again.

The reading glasses are a help, but usually not essential. I was damned tired of having to have reading glasses when wearing contacts. Or I could remove the contacts and read without the reading glasses, but couldn't see anything farther away than about five feet. So, then I could put on the distance glasses, but then couldn't read anything...well, you get it.

18. I have thought of this myself but am too scared to get it down, like

what if the doc is having a bad day. I am also 20/200 and glasses are basically part of my face.

2. Contacts--nearsighted.

My eyes have actually gotten weaker, I think, since I got glasses, and eventually contacts. Now I'm pitifully close to blindness without my contacts. It would be interesting to get my unaided vision tested, because I know it's appallingly bad.

Next time I visit the eye doctor, I'm going to get a prescription for glasses that I will fill at Lenscrafters as well as order a new batch of contacts.

It's nice to be able to wear glasses if I just don't feel like putting in the contacts a certain morning.

My mom has had glasses since she was 12, but my dad didn't need glasses until he was 45.

someday I'm going to get that laser surgery, but I'll still wear glasses -- both for fashion AND eye protection (I can't count the number of times a small object has bounced off my glasses)

I get 30 pairs of contacts every 2 months, and so wear them both about half of the time. I think that there's swings and roundabouts across the two and like having the flexibility to switch around.

Which I recommend. The closeup is good enough for most things, but I still keep a pair of reading glasses nearby and have regular glasses I can wear if my eyes get tired of the contacts late at night.
