Need Jesus Quotes
I am working on a blog entry and I am going to use some things Jesus said about poor people - and anything Jesus said that makes it obvious he was a liberal.

Anyone?

I'd probably their bumper sticker if it said was instead of is...he hasn't made his second coming yet, has he? Unless he's Barack Obama.

22. Most who believe in Christ
think of him as eternal, raised from the dead.

So, Jesus is a pacifist. As an aside, tell republican Christians that Christ is a pacifist and shoot down their attempt to argue that he turned over tables and acted violent, they reply "yeah, but"

3. I believe it was Jesus who said:
"When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, "Why god? Why me?" and the thundering voice of God answered, "There's just something about you that pisses me off.""

18. How could I have forgotten that one??
When I was ten or so, I was converted by watching the ABC 4:30 aftenoon movie, "King of Kings" was playing and I was just blown away. And I was in Catholic school, but to see the gospel acted out was what really affected me. But that quote has stuck with me my whole life, and to this day I am uncomfortable when I have more than I feel I need. Jesus spoke against ambition as well, if we are to be ambitious for wealth and fame and not justice or mercy, we are on the wrong track.

But what Jesus emphasized most was that mercy was the heart of the law. "I desire mercy, not sacrifice!"

10.  too easy, Jesus was definitely a liberal
"The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has appointed me to preach the good news to the poor"

"You cannot serve God and Mammon"

"And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer?' but ye have made it a den of thieves."

"And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."

"Live by the sword, die by the sword"

"The meek will inherit the earth"

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons and daughters of God"

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy"

"For I was hungry and you gave me food,

I was thirsty and you gave me drink,

I was a Stranger and you Welcomed me,

I was naked and you clothed me,

I was sick and you visited me,

I was in prison and you came to me.

Truly, I say to you,

as you did it to

one of the least of these,

my brethren,

you did it to me."

"Forive seventy times seven"

"Turn the other cheek"

"If you want to enter heaven, sell all you have, give it to the poor and follow me"

Don't forget the thief on the cross, the first saint to whom Jesus said, "Today you will be with me in paradise"

16. Here's some
Matthew 19

21Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Luke 18
The Parable of the Persistent Widow
1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or care about men, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!’ ”

6And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Luke 18 I like this one.

9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

20. You see?
"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

That's why Christ will say to these politicians who claim the moral high ground, "Away from me evil-doers, I never knew you"

17. If you go to the library, you can find a Bible with a concordance
or even a separate concordance to use with a Bible which will allow you to look up keywords such as "Poor" and it will give you every place in which the Bible uses that word.

23. On Jesus and sexuality
it's interesting to note that Christ was forgiving the sins of the flesh left and right, but had constant strong condemnations for sins of the spirit that related to injustice and unforgivness and greed.

24. Luke 16, 9 -15:
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 06:33 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
"So I say to you, use your worldly wealth to win friends for yourselves, so that when money is a thing of the past, you may be received into an eternal home."

"The man who can be trusted in little things can also be trusted in great; and the man who is dishonest in little things is dishonest also in great things. If then you have not proved trustworthy with the wealth of this world, who will trust you with the wealth that is real? And if you have proved untrustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own?"

"No servant can be the slave of two masters; for either he will hate the first and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and think nothing of the second. You cannot serve God and Money."

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and scoffed* at him. He said to them, "You are the people who impress your fellow-men with your self-righteousness; but God sees through you; for what sets itself up to be admired by men is detestable in the sight of God."

____
* They are still scoffing at him, of course, in the worst possible way: by their actions. Vengeance is mine", says the lord. "I WILL repay". (my capitals...). Not a single homeless person's premature death will go unavenged, because they are all infinitely precious in his sight. "What you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto ME".
