It annoys me when parents name their children after them
I mean, like Tom, Jr. or Susan, Jr.

The kid is confused right out of the womb. Like life isn't confusing enough.

Let them have their own identity.

Ok, rant over.:)

23. I once dated a guy whose father did that
Imagine the fun they all had at my expense when I'd call the house looking for him and here were seven men living there with the same first name . I also had a friend in high school whose father named all of the boys and girls after him. There was Claudine, Claudia, Claudina, Claude, Claudio, Claudette, and Claudetta :eyes: .

I was named after my paternal grandmother but at least there aren't a dozen of us running around the family confusing everyone.

4. All of my children are named after a parent or (great) grandparent.
My oldest daughter's first name is a derivative variant of my name. Her middle name is a variant of my mother's name.

My second daughter's first name is my middle name. Her middle name is my mother's middle name.

My son's first name is a variant of my great-grandfather's. His middle name is my husband's first name.

This way, we have a family connection with the names without anyone having an identical name to someone else in the family.

5. My father is a junior
My brother is a "III" and his son is a "IV". :eyes:

I have a friend who was named for his father, Elmer. But since they didn't want it to be confusing having two Elmers around, they call him Jim which was a nickname of his father's when he was a kid.

Yeah, now THAT's not confusing! :wtf:

His GP was Franklin Delano, Dad - Franklin Wayne, He is Franklin Delano, wants to keep the tradition going. I tried Franklin James or Franklin Dare or Franklin Nicholas (my dad is James, GP's were Dare and Nicholas) Now, I've just warned him that he might not be around when I sign the birth certificate j/k.

If he won't compromise with something like that, what else won't he compromise about?

You don't have to answer that, it's just something to think about. I don't know your b/f and don't want to judge him but...

this is just something he has had in his head for a long time. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time worrying about it or arguing. After 9 mos of pregnancy and my constant complaining, I'm sure he will be broken down enough to negotiate. j/k.

But I like it because my name is unique, not some ordinary name like John or Bill (no offense to Johns and Bills).

Being a III has been NO HINDRANCE on my self-identity. I am quite pompous as it is. :P
