My Cat Trixie Just Ate A French Fry! Odd Things Cats Eat....
My cat Felix ate what was left on a plate of spaghetti once...

Several cats I've known have eaten melon and squash seeds.

I've seen Felix catch bugs and eat them.

In fact, My Dad trapped & killed cats in OZ and upon inspection of their stomach contents found mostly bugs. They also found remains of endangered species of mini-marsupials, hence the need to eradicate feral cats in that particular Wildlife Preserve.

Strange things that cats eat....

41. Yes - my cat is nuts for Parmesan cheese
Any plate that has had the slightest bit of parmesan on it gets a through licking after dinner. Some nights, to stop the annoying begging I just put parmesan on her cat food and watch her go crazy.

12. Not really odd
but I have been iced in at my farm for 8 total days and nights of the last two weeks so I have spent much more time with my farm cats. I always share popcorn with my doggies at home so I was totally surprised that my kitties also like popcorn. I don't know why it was a surprise but it was. At least they don't try to catch it slinging slobber all over the place and if they don't want to eat it they used it for entertainment.

Hopefully this will spur on my hubbys interest in getting our house built.

Observe:

This is the late great Fergie digging into a box of Dairy Queen fries. He also loved Doritos and cookie pieces (no chocolate for my kitties). When I once dropped a plate of spaghetti on the floor, Ferg was there to happily lick up the tomato sauce.

Monty and Simba also love Doritos and cookie pieces, but their FAVORITE human food is biscuits. They will kill me for biscuit bits if I don't offer them, I'm quite sure!

It's probably the cheese she's after. She'll get up there, and then reach down and try to hijack the slice.

As for eating their vomit, I think it's an instictual "don't want predators to know I'm sick" deal.

45. My two will eat pretty much everything
If it's food, they'll eat it. What freaks me is the non-food items they munch on. Even though I grow that "kitty grass" for them to munch on & they don't touch it, they've destroyed several houseplants that I've left mistakenly in areas they can reach. They don't even swallow, they just bite off the leaves & drop them.

Frankie has a fetish for all things plastic. He loves to eat curling ribbon.

It's Beans who amazes me - she likes to gnaw on things like drawer pulls, my bedpost, door jambs, and anything kitty-mouth sized.

She also likes to pick up my glasses with her teeth & walk away with them until she can't carry them anymore. I've had to start shutting them in a drawer to keep her from taking them in the middle of the night.

One of my cats eats plastic bags (she prefers the thin type) another eats brown paper bags (and cardboard) but all three can't resist chewing on a leather bag.

consequences: plastic vomit, brown paper paste vomit and occasionally plastic poop

They also eat flies when they can but that seems more normal

Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 01:03 PM by cryingshame
on their tounge... the only option is to keep swallowing. And if the object is long (like a string) it CAN choke them to death.

My post was pretty common-sensical.

All I can say is, if I could NOT keep plastic bags away from a cat who had a predeliction for them... I either wouldn't bring them into the house or I would MAKE DAMN SURE KITTY DIDN'T GET THEM.

But that's just me.

55. The Great Bess, Queen of the Jungle was the runt of her litter.
Her first set of Humans managed to pull her through with a few days' worth of white gravy. After that, she developed a taste for Fritos. When she was full-grown, she became enchanted by Cherry Cheese Pie (recipe from Eagle Brand can label). She would carefully remove the cherries from the top, then eat the filling and crust.

She never showed the slightest remorse for eating "people" food, but she balanced it out by constantly bringing me captured rabbits and mice--which I was expected to kill and eat, of course. FYI, there's nothing harder to catch and put back outdoors than a two-strip chipmunk.

What a Badass Kitty!

of my sons nebulizer or the plastic airhoses for the fishtank if she can get behind there. She cant eat them, but it's a pain in the butt to try and give your son a breathing treatment and there's little puncture marks up and down the tubing. Duct taped tubing is not a very efficeint way to administer meds to an asthma patient.
