1. Have you heard the duet of "Masquerade" she did of with Ella?
I found it on itunes last night and was blown away that they had recorded together. Interesting contrast. I agree, she had a fine voice...not in Ella's league though.

10. Somewhat...and actualy it's a medely
Ella was obviously pretty old at the time. She still sounds great, but it is a bit of a contrast.

3. I never could figure the Carpenters out, some of their stuff was
great, other songs were like fingernails on a blackboard.

7. No you don't lose your Shiznit award
Unless you feel like you want to revoke Sonic Youth's Shiznit awards...they were big fans too.

Someone said it here - Karen Carpenter was the original Death/Goth Princess...

13. Yeah - listen to even one of their hits
"We've only just begun"

The part where she winces before singing "to live"....turn up the volume on that one and you'll see what I mean.

6. I love Karen.. the voice of a (depressed) angel
Her voice always sounded so sad to me. The made for tv movie about her life played used that song, Masquerade, at her wedding. How inappropriate is that? So many of her songs I love. Superstar, Only Yesterday, Rainy Days and Mondays, Close To You.

8. You ain't goofy! When I hear Karen's voice now I think "WOW"!
She really had a beautiful voice--very smooth and comforting. I don't think there's anyone out there now who's anything like her--lots of screeching in today's music, if you ask me!

9. They really were
and that is one of my closely held secrets. She had a wonderful voice and together they created a unique and lovely sound.

14. Thanks
and one back to you
I am a musician and do not tell many of my musician friends of my secret liking for the Carpenters although if I tell just the right people I usually find out they are closet Carpenters fans as well. My brother who was a professional musician with the Opera Co. in Houston used to listen to them before he went on because her voice comforted him with its warmth.

15. same here
although not a musician, i have friends who consider themselves to be true musical aesthetes (i think they are musical dilettantes). i never tell them of my 'secret love' for them. but, when i meet a fellow secret fan...i gotta give a hug.

so...again
