1. fast fashion (depeche mode) POLICY OF TRUTH
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 10:44 PM by BattenS
You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldn’t you
Now you’re not satisfied
With what you’re being put through

It’s just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth

Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilised
You will always wonder how
It could have been if you’d only lied

It’s too late to change events
It’s time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Now you’re standing there tongue tied
You’d better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell

You’ll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

There is a Light That Never Goes Out. Great song!

I still love the angst-ridden How Soon is Now, though. I can't help it, it hooks me in every single time...

3. Cheezy romanticism but in my weaker moments, I succomb
Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"
Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

4. For Cheesy Romanticism
try Depeche's SOMEBODY

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who’ll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She’ll get my support
She will listen to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my views may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She’ll hear me out
And won’t easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she’ll often disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me
Aaaahhhhh....

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and
With every breath
Someone who’ll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don’t want to be tied
To anyone’s strings
I’m carefully trying to steer clear of
Those things
But when I’m asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I’ll get away with it
Aaaahhhhh....

The Cure Lovesong lyrics
whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am home again
whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am whole again

whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am young again
whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am fun again

however far away
i will always love you
however long i stay
i will always love you
whatever words i say
i will always love you
i will always love you

whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am free again
whenever i'm alone with you
you make me feel like i am clean again

however far away
i will always love you
however long i stay
i will always love you
whatever words i say
i will always love you
i will always love you

34. I love all three of the bands
but Just Like Heaven got me together with my college sweetie in the 2nd semester of our Freshman year (Spring, 1989). He used to call my dorm-mates when he'd do his radio show and tell them to make sure I was in listening distance when he'd dedicate it to me. Every week, he'd do a "double shot" & dedicate Just Like Heaven & Why Can't I Be You to me.

He also had a girl that was in my sorority that he'd gone to high school with talk him up.

It wasn't that hard. He was HOT, at least in my book. The best celebrity equivalent I can come up with is Ryan Phillipe. Once I "gave in", we'd listen to the Cure (esp. Disintegration), DM and The Smiths, among others.

It reminds me of everything great about my youth.

12. All of the above
The Smiths are my favorite though. In no special order, Big Mouth, How Soon Is Now, Panic, Ask Me etc. Love The Smiths!
I also love Morrisey's solo stuff, from Break Up The Family I used as a sig line for a while and it was my personal little tribute to Georgie boy, "The strange logic in your clumsiest line, it stay emblazoned on my mind." I stopped using b/c I got the feeling some DUers thought it was some sort of snide comment. I probably should have explained in my sig line the reason for the use.

18. LOVE THEM ALL!
They were my three favorite bands for years! I'm not as into DM post-Violator and the Cure post-Disintegration. I love every single Smiths album and still listen to them.

Favorite Smiths songs: How Soon is Now?, William it Was Really Nothing, Back to the Old House (Hatful of Hollow version), Cemetery Gates, This Charming Man, The Boy with the Thorn in His Side, Bigmouth Strikes Again, There is a Light, Ask, Vicar in a Tutu, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, Stop Me if You've Heard this One Before, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now...

Okay, sorry, I'm pretty much naming all their songs. I really love the Smiths.

Favorite DM: Fly on the Windscreen, Shake the Disease, Everything Counts, Love in Itself, Monument

Favorite Cure: Charlotte Sometimes, Lovecats, In Between Days, Boys Don't Cry, Let's Go to Bed, The Caterpillar, A Night Like this, Kyoto Song

23. "Pictures of You"
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 11:24 PM by Amaya
i've been looking so long at these pictures of
you that i almost belive that they're real i've
been living so long with my pictures of you that
i almost believe that the pictures are all i can
feel

remembering you standing quiet in the rain as
i ran to your heart to be near and we kissed as
the sky fell in holding you close how i always
held close in your fear remembering you
running soft through the night you were bigger
and brighter than the snow and
screamed at the make-believe screamed at the
sky and you finally found all your courage to
let it all go

remembering you fallen into my arms crying
for the death of your heart you were stone
white so delicate lost in the cold you were
always so lost in the dark remembering you
how you used to be slow drowned you were
angels so much more than everything oh hold
for the last time then slip away quietly open
my eyes but i never see anything

if only i had thought of the right words i could
have hold on to your heart if only i'd thought of
the right words i wouldn't be breaking apart all
my pictures of you

Looking So long at these pictures of you but i
never hold on to your heart looking so long for
the words to be true but always just breaking
apart my pictures of you

there was nothing in the world that i ever
wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart
there was nothing in the world that i ever
wanted more than to never feel the breaking
apart all my pictures of you

It is an awesome collection -- so many great songs that I had forgotten about. Includes Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Smiths, Psychadelic Furs, Joy Division, New Order, Siouxie and the Banshees...

Each CD (there are 4) represents a certain part of the eighties.

I had seen this box set a couple of months ago and said to myself that I was definitely going to buy it. Well, I won some money in a football pool this past weekend and took my winnings on down to the "record shop" and bought it. Some other bands include:

Replacements
Pixies
New Order
XTC
Sonic Youth
The Lyres
the dB's
REM
Wall of Voodoo
Jane's Addiction
PIL
Bad Brains
Dream Syndicate
Lone Justice
X

Favorite song? Well, I am tired so these are in no particular order tonight:

These Things Take Time
Suffer Little Children
Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
Paint A Vulgar Picture
Frankly Mr. Shankly
Bigmouth Strikes Again
The Boy With the Thorn in His Side
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others
Ask
Stretch Out and Wait

61. Hand in Glove, Killing an Arab, Enjoy the Silence
And no, the middle one isn't racist -- on the contrary, it depicts the sorrow of a man in a war that has just killed for the first time.

62. Smiths: How Soon is Now, DM: Blasphm. Rumors...
I know, I know... HSIN has totally been corrupted by "Charmed," but that is the Love Spit Love version, which I don't hate. I just think that song is dark and ominous and foreboding, and I love it. And I like "Charmed," too.

DM has so much good stuff to choose from, but I just love Blasphemous Rumors. That and Strangelove. And Enjoy the Silence... and People are People... I love it all!

67. Echo and the Bunnymen's "Read it in Books"
"You said you couldn`t find anyone
To love you
I said there`s more to life than a broken heart
Did it console you?
I`ve seen in your eyes
I`ve read it in books
Who wants love
Without the looks

You know the words
Please do say it from your knees
Show some respect
Hey baby, genuflect
Once I like crying
Twice I like laughter
Come on tell me what I`m after

I said you`ve gotta stop chasing rainbows
You said I`m just staying up
And anyway
I like it when the rain goes
I`ve seen in your eyes
I`ve read it in books
Who want`s love
Without the looks
Once I like crying
Twice I like laughter
Come on tell me what I`m after

There`s not that much to us
I hide the little with a lot
You still expect a lovely fuss
After showing all you`ve got
I`ve seen in your eyes
I`ve read it in books
Who wants love
Without the looks
That`s all"

70. The Cure-- 17 Seconds
Greatest Cure album EVER. Just enough gloom, poppiness and atmosphere. The rest just seem like empty bombast compared to this one.

72. Depeche Mode!
An element of my favorite triumvirate, the others being Nitzer Ebb and New Order.

Cure and Smiths are excellent, too.
