Last day to donate to the Khephra Memorial Fund.

We're still collecting donations to the Khephra Flowers/Memorial Fund. If you would still like to donate, I hope that you will try to do so before 5:00 PM ET, Friday afternoon (TODAY). It would be really helpful if I could get a final count before I leave the office.

If you still want to donate to help out, just click here to go to our donate page. In the space where it says "Forum Username," type "Khephra" so we know the donation is for him.

I have already purchased flowers, and we are going to give the additional funds to Khephra's mother so she can decide how it should best be spent. My understanding is that the cost of the memorial service will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,400. As of Thursday afternoon, we had raised approximately $3,000.

I think it would be even more amazing if we could come up with the entire cost of the funeral. IIRC, it always was a struggle for him and his mom.

I can't imagine a week from now not only trying to come to grips with his untimely passing, but also being struggling with trying to come up with the money (who knows from where) to pay for the funeral expenses.

I really hope we can collectively relieve her of that additional burden. She'll have enough of a struggle in the months to come.

I'm just still in awe that people here contributed this much. We read so many posts about people losing jobs, having health issues, etc., it is extraordinarily touching to see how people have helped out during this time of great sadness.

I so appreciate what Khephra meant and means to DU. I remember feeling he was special before I even became a member, when I was only reading DU.

I know it must be a help to his mom and other family members to know how beloved he is by so many.
