There was an uproar about a mouse-in-the-house-and-the-cat-hasn't-killed -it-yet last evening.

6. Exactly one year ago, a DU'er linked us to a website for "green" |

mouse extermination. I had bought all kinds of traps and sticky things. I bought a $39 Havahart trap and got them all one-by-one, but didn't know how many more I would have and this website said put a saucer of cement or concrete powder mixed half and half with flour on the floor beside a saucer of water. The next morning you will find a dead constipated rat beside the water dish. Well, I didn't have any more rats last year after the Havahart took care of them, but I had bought a plastic jug of concrete mix, anticipating the 10 more in the walls phenomenon. They didn't materialize, but this year, same time, I have at least one. I have been putting out the cement every night, smoothing the top of the mixture with the back of a spoon, so I can look for signs the next morning. Every night there are signs of nibbling around the edges. No dead rats. We did have a smell for a little while emanating from under the house, but there are still nibbles on the cement. Seems like there are less nibbles and footprints every night. I will keep you posted.
