If you had stocks in four different companies...where would you put them
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 12:38 AM by LaPera
so as not to contribute to this corporate structure bullshit of death, imperialism and environmental destruction? And still have the investment transfer of the the stocks safe and growing.

The total worth of all four combined is only a little more than 16K (I inherited).

Where would you put it, and what's the best way to go about it, online, a broker?

4. There's no track within 250 miles of here, and I don't use credit cards.

3. There are socially conscious funds out there.
Domini Funds has one that I've had money in.

9. I'd go to Domini's site
or whoever you go with and ask them. You'll need a prospectus from them before you do anything. They should have an faq or a customer service link.

7. Agreed
Find a good socially-conscious fund. Online, or in advertisments in magazines like Harper's.

6. I would go to the shopping section of my site
and look over some of those businesses. I'd put my money in a place where it would be good for the world AND me.

8. There are a couple of mutual funds that are "green"
I think Calvert has a couple and I think one is even called "greenfund" or "greenfunds" but don't rely on a broker to steer you toward them; the brokers will say they are bad investments.

Look for companies that are union and/or known to recycle.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is a great one; Costco offers good benefits to employees and gives to Dems much more than it gives to Repubs. Avoid WalMart like the plague (obviously).

Seventh Generation is a great company, but I don't know it it is privately held. Ditto working assests.

Avoid funds that invest in oil companies or coal mining; they are the worst. environmental polluters of all time (don't be fooled by BP's new green logo either).

Also, know that for every company someone suggests, another person will have a story of how that company screwed over their cousin who used to work there.

Just do the best you can at trying to invest responsibly and good luck! :hi:
