2. he asked the question twice
the second time was right after the guy aimed and hit the shouting VietCong guy without even seeing him

The guy says, "Yeah" and gets up and walks away. Very Creepy.

3. That's right...
... the first time he asks it, he gets the "ain't you?" reply.

The scene with the guy with the grenade launcher is actually quite clever--my sense is that he's like a Zen archer--they are supposed to be able to hit a target beyond the line of sight.

... version. The whole detour to the French plantation is akin to a fever hallucination--I find it very interesting to watch.

6. and the Hendrix reverbs were perfect
as a metaphor for chaos. Just love that movie especially the opening scene that actually STARTS with "The End" and the jungle lighting up in flames.

It's interesting to watch the movie if one has read Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" beforehand.
