Career Day Speaker Tells Children Stripping Is Lucrative

POSTED: 8:33 am EST January 14, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO -- School officials in Palo Alto are reconsidering their use of a popular speaker for an annual career day after he advised middle school students that they could earn a good living as strip dancers.

William Fried told eighth-graders at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School that stripping and exotic dancing could be lucrative career moves for girls, offering as much as $250,000 or more per year, depending on their bust size.
SURVEY
Do you think the school should invite this popular guest speaker back for future career days?
Yes, with the understanding that he will be more appropriate.

"It's sick, but it's true," Fried, president of Foster City's Precision Selling, a management consulting firm, told The Associated Press. "The truth of the matter is you can earn a tremendous amount of money as an exotic dancer, if that's your desire."

1. Hey, when the choices are Walmart or boobie shows...
One for 7 bucks an hour and the other for 10 - 15x that, the winner becomes obvious

4. If a teacher told my daughter that they would have a hell of
a lot of explaining to do to one pissed off Cuban.

Hey, I didn't write the charter for this F*cked up society. Sex sells. Marketers use it to get us to buy their useless crap every day. This is just an extension of that.

kids they can wear ugly uniforms, get paid nearly minimum wage, and possibly wind up dying in a war about a lie should they chose a military "career".

3. Well, that's certainly true
And probably every bit as balanced and revealing of the true nature of the profession as, for example, a military recruiter.

What the speaker for strippers probably neglected to disclose were industry peculiarities such as its involvement and proximity to drug use, organized crime, prostitution and violations of labor laws. But those 8th graders would find that out soon enough, I suppose.

Two questions: Why is this being allowed in a MIDDLE SCHOOL fer crissakes; and is there such a shortage of strippers that 13-year-old girls have to be indoctrinated into the trade to ensure a steady supply?

6. He is professionally correct but politically naive or else he
doesn't need a job. Maybe he's a good looking guy who is considering for himself. Already has an offer?
