Dogs & Vacuum Cleaners
O.K. explain this universal fact. Why does your dog always end up laying in the very next place your about to vacuum?

1. Yeah, how do they know?
And when I sweep they MUST walk right through the pile. It's a doggie magnet.

2. No. Ours head for the furthest point in the house from the vacuum cleaner

...if they had thumbs, they'd be out the door and driving my car to the next town. :scared:

10. Running away - literally.
My dog wants out of the house at the SIGHT of the vacuum - starts shaking and tries to excape from the yard, which he's be successful at 60% of the time.

We adopted him and I've thought that he may have been abused by a vacuum cleaner in his early life.

15. Poor little guy
I think microchipping him might be in your best interest.

I know about adopting and having to overcome fears. I adopted a beautiful little red girl mini dachshund from my local shelter in 1994 (Ruby - of Rubyduby fame). She was terrified of the steps to the basement, hated all male teenagers and had a scar on her chest. I'm guessing that she was abused in a basement or thrown down stairs and that it was young males that did it.

I miss my sweet girl, 1991-2003.

17. No, the ones I've had are scared of it too
Even though they love the warmth, they're scared to death of it. I guess it's the noise thing again.

5. The vacuum cleaner is "another dog"
and your dog must protect HIS territory against this intruder!

And of course HIS territory is anything that smells like him, which is usually an area you haven't cleaned up yet.

7. Because he like to be vac'd
My big old boy wouldn't move until I pulled out the hose, put on the attachment and gave him a good vacuuming. He'd always roll over so I could do the other side too.

9. Not Fargo!
The big green monster is a frightening creature to behold! He heads for the other end of the house or cowers on his bed when I vacuum.

Considering most of the vacuuming is because of the thick dusting of white that covers everything I own, it's kind of ironic, really.

12. My dog runs away if she sees me with the vacuum cleaner...
Having my dog lie down in the next spot I want to vacuum is a problem I will never have.

13. Mine Doesn't Do That! Honest!
Mine follows me around. He stays right by me while i'm vacuuming and only occasionally will he anticipate wrongly. When he does, all i have to do is say "Other way!" and he gets back behind me.

14. Hope, our border collie, tries to herd
the vaccum. She doesn't like it when you try to get to the edges of the carpet.

18. Mine watches me and stares at the vacuum, moving her head...
back and forth, back and forth with each movement of my arm. She'll do this the entire time as if it's magically gonna do something else besides go back and forth, back and forth...and she doesn't want to miss it! :)
