2. There'll be other chances
It's a good idea for phone interviews to keep a completed job application and some "essay question" answers in front of you to cheat from. Those personal questions are always the hardest to answer unless you have something prepared in advance.

that's a good idea. I'm already a humble person and i hate tooting my own horn, then add in that i was nervous and all hell broke loose

7. Hate when that happens!
It's unfortunate that we all need to rely on this process to hire. It seems so contrived to force folks to perform to get a job. I don't think most folks are really at their best when they are interviewed.

I know, I have hired people who were not the best interview because their skills, and experience were a better match.

It's hard--but try not to beat yourself up too much about it. You may be the best person for the job and the hiring person will see that.

You may want to jot a quick thank you note to the person interviewing you-and give a quick outline of what you didn't tell them.

8. The ones I hate.
What is your greatest acheivement?
What is your 5 year plan?
What are your greatest assets?

16. My answers to those 3 questions are
"When I kicked the shit out of three football jocks that were celebrating being picked in the NFL draft." (They were harassing 2 girls outside a bar, the girls ran to me for protection)
"My 5 year plan is to take your job from you and then fire you."
"My assets are being able to hold my Liquor, and Drugs"
I've never gotten a job through an interview, I can't figure that one out.

9. You can rehabilitate the situation by writing a thank you letter to the
interviewer. Mention that upon further consideration of the question about additional information you would like to share with them that...write about skills and experience you have that fits with the position requirements and job functions.

You're so right! I got hired for my current job from my thank you letter
and not from my interview.

12. funny how phone interviews can be more nerve racking than
those done in person!

If you don't get it, then it wasn't meant to be!;)

13. I hate interviews too
I have anxiety disorders and interviewing seems to be one of the most anxiety causing situations for me. At my last interview a couple days ago, which lasted two hours, I ended up having a panic attack. I was able to hide it somewhat (like they didn't notice me shaking) and get it under control in 5-10 minutes, but it was awful and I didn't retain any of the information said during that period of time.
If I don't get the job, I think that I will go back to counseling and deal with this issue specifically. I might also want to talk to a career counselor so I can have some of these answers scripted so I don't have to worry so much about giving good answers on the fly.

14. aw, that sucks
hopefully they'll see through that to your qualifications.

I know I have to have some kind of nervous thing too. Whenever I debate with the college democrats against the repubs, i'm fine until i get off the script. then i studder and go all over the place.

18. I interviewed for the same position three times over the course of
3-1/2 years. It was a job I really wanted at the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Around the table were eight or ten justices. I don't know why but they intimidated the hell out of me and I blew it each time. I kept drawing a blank and forgetting the questions. I had the qualifications, that's why they kept inviting me back. I wasn't even "desperate" for work, since I was already employed.

I am much better in one-to-one or two or three people panel interviews.

In hindsight, there was probably something wrong with the job otherwise it wouldn't keep opening so often. Right???
