Why do we allow visiting Monarchs to continue their shit here?
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 09:35 PM by HEyHEY
I was watching the news...some Thai Princess is on town when she should be in her homeland...but that's beside the point.

The staff in Canada were told not to talk to her because you just aren't allowed to talk to Princesses.

FUCK THAT...this is Canada.... we'll call you a fucking cow for not being in Thailand right now if we want.

By doing this kind of favour we are condoning what they do.

3. No, not condoning. Just following protocol.
That way, when officials of your country - or mine - head off to foreign countries, they also receive the proper treatment. Theoretically.

But I'm with you about some of the uber-fucked up royalty bullshit. I don't mind the respect that should be shown to real leaders, who were actually elected. I'm not so keen on the idea of needing to treat someone with respect because their family won a war 500 years ago and have owned the country ever since and the current person just happens to have a parent who's part of that family by sheer force of luck and fate.

4. King Juan Carlos of Spain is hero of democracy
He created a democracy out of fascism. He hangs out in sidewalk cafes and mingles with public who adore him.

I'll take Juan Carlos over the Bush Dynasty any day...

5. Arriba Espana
It once was Spain but now it is the US that would actually be improved by a Bourbon regime!!

6. Allegedly electing doesn't seem to working very well these
days. Personally I'll take the queen anytime over Bush or Blair.

7. The King of Thailand is supposed to be a pretty swell guy
not only is Bhumibol fairly well-read and relatively liberal in his worldview, he also plays saxaphone in a jazz ensemble.

Yeah

it has been rumored that the Princess shall be heiress to the throne because her brother, the crown prince (whose name escapes me at the moment) has AIDS and (this is true but Thais are ever-reluctant to acknowledge it ever happened) tried to have his sister assassinated
