...maybe not. Hard to choose, no? You do both very well, I think you have to make time for both... somehow. I know time is always a problem, at least it is for me. I have a small charcoal portrait I have been trying to work on for months now. I can't ever get to it.... sigh

16. I guess I am a little, yeah.
But mostly I just feel like a speck on the butt of a flea around here. Everyone seems so much smarter, so much more popular, and I end up feeling like I'm talking into the void.

Silly maybe but there it is.

19. I'll tell you a story about a guy...
Who had only 100 posts...who felt that everyone was smarter and more popular than him...

He decided to join a group at DU to get to know a few people, but none of the groups interested him...

The rest is DU history...

I bet Van Gogh and Monet had the same problem with affording painting materials.....and look at them now. So how much is that painting? I like it very much....is the subject Native american....strikes me that way.

Interesting that you question the subject...

It's a still life, taken from life. The piece of poetry in the painting is one of my own, from the ceramics class I was forced to take...:)

just a personal observation. I have never been a toon fan....cept for looneytoons, animaniacs, bugs bunny, elmer fud and those pesky wabbits, and beanie and cecil and the simpsons and southpark..you get my drift.

25. if you could combine the impressionism with toons
you would have new art form. I don't see your paintings "toonish at all"

maybe a painting with your toons commenting on your paintings.

It looks like you were influenced by the impressionists (I see a little Van Gogh, a little Monet, a little Manet, and a little Gaugain). Good. I like them. Please don't get drunk and cut off your ear, though. ;-)

46. There is a "marketplace" forum here
Maybe you could post up some of your pieces and see if they sell. I have this feeling that a lot of people here support each other and will buy some of your paintings.
As I said..I would if I could.

Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 10:36 PM by Lorien
art CAN be taught; anyone can paint, draw, sculpt; it's NOT a matter of talent; it's a matter of time, ambition, and learning how to see. I've taught artists for film studios, for colleges, and now I'm writing a book on the subject. Read Betty Edwards "drawing on the right side of the brain" for starters. You don't need talented hands, or perfect eyesight, or a dark, narcissistic personality to be a skilled artist. Desire, time, and instruction on how to see the world; colors, values, proportions, volumes.... it takes shedding preconceptions and the "symbol" thinking we've been taught since youth and seeing what's really there. Start with the Edwards book; you'll be amazed at the skills you'll uncover.
