Atlanta gathering folks - please read re: date and accomodations

Hi, y'all.

We've got a great crowd, looks like. Counting the "maybes" but not counting significant others who might come, we're looking at about 30 right now.

A number of people are coming from out of town, some from quite a ways, and even folks from just outside of town might well not want to drive home after an evening of drunken, liberal debauchery. ;-) Therefore, the following...

If you need accomodations in Atlanta

Let's talk about how to work this. At our first gathering, we glitched and marooned poor Roni out in Marietta in a hotel by herself. If y'all can, and want to, do the hotel thing, let's try to get everyone at the same place. CatWoman and I and other local folks can suggest a locale. CW and I are on the east side between Decatur and Stone Mountain, so that seems like the logical area to me.

If you can't, or would rather not, do the hotel thing, there is bed/couch/floor space available at Rancho Uly and may be elsewhere. We'll see what else might be available. Post in this thread or send me a PM.

If you can provide accomodations

Local folks: NO PRESSURE. :) I'm serious, though. If you have the space and are comfortable having DUers you might have never met crashing in your crib, please PM me and let me know how many you can hold. We may not even have the need. If you don't have the space or aren't comfortable with the idea, no problem. We'll work it out.

Flying the friendly skies?

Did I mention that I also missed Roni at the airport three years ago? She had fun, really! (Right, Roni?)

I have no idea if we'll have anyone flying in (buddhamama is the only possible that comes to mind), but if we do, let's plan accordingly so that you're not stuck at Hartsfield-Jackson forever.

The date.

Later in February seems to be the best for most folks, with the possible exception of Pithlet and kcr (if there was anyone else who preferred earlier, please speak up again and my apologies). Should we just plan for February 26th/27th? Please post your availability that weekend in this thread. Kevin and Dawn, let me know if the later date is a problem. We really want y'all here.

Finally...

If anyone has a particular way in which they would like to remember Khephra at the gathering, please plan to do so. We'll post pictures, etc. here for posterity. :)

17. another consideration: RIDES

We have a couple of potential attendees in the Carolinas in need of rides to and from Atlanta. Anyone willing to provide rides to those folks are invited to check out the threads in the NC and SC state forums.

BE CAREFUL. Obviously, check out who you might get into a car with or allow into your car. We've never had any problems with rw nutcakes in the past, but they are out there and they have made noises about trying to disrupt gatherings in Atlanta. Just be careful.

I'm coming from East Tennessee and since NC is my neighbor, if anyone wants to try to work out something about a ride, please PM me and we'll talk about details.

The main Saturday get-together is planned for Manuel's Tavern (http://www.manuelstavern.com/), which is Atlanta's traditional hangout for Democratic pols, writers, etc. It is a bar, but it's not 21 and over only. They won't card you at the door.

Not really, no. The Inman Park/Reynoldstown MARTA station is fairly close by, though, and we can do shuttles or cabs as the need arises. I'm thinking it might be good if hotel folks were in Decatur (there's a good Holiday Inn) because that's right on the MARTA line.
