I live here and there ain't no scenery in ND to see for almost 200 miles. And the idiots in power think tourism can save the day?

6. yeah, this is the warmest winter that I can remember by far

it's cold here right now (by St. Louis standards...it's 15, I think), but we've hit the upper 50's at least one day a week, if not more days/higher temps. It's very strange.

Your post reminded me of a West Wing episode where the people of North Dakota were organizing to try to take "North" out of their name, thinking it would improve their share of tourism dollars.

ND People: "Last year, this state took in (ridiculously small amount) in tourism. South Dakota took in (MUCH larger amount). They have roughly the same average snowfall and average temperatures as we do...but they have the word 'south' in their name."

7. It's not arriving. It's been here from some time.

Every cold snap makes people forget this reality, but climate change, a very, very, very serious matter, more important than Iraq, Tsunamis, more important than Scott and Lacy, the World Trade Center, more important than Dafur, more important than football, Chechnya, more important than just about anything you can think about in human affairs.

In history, if there is a history, we will be forever damned the stupidity associated with this matter.

8. It's not even cold here

My two Siberian Huskies are blowing their coats already. We're not having a winter here in Virginia. It is supposed to get colder later this week. We'll see. I think the dogs are telling me something.
