Poll question: a capella music: love it or hate it |
|
i love it. no matter how much i love bands and instrumental groups, there's nothing better than hearing human voices matching almost exactly the instrumental parts. can't beat the harmony they create as well.
if you do like it too, what are your favorite groups? i love Rockapella (where in the world is carmen sandiego), the UPenn singers and my college has an awsome all-male and all-female a capella groups.

I too love bands, instrumental groups, soloist, etc.. But I also love the hell out of a good a capella group, male, female, animal groups, lol... as long as they sound good! I can't name a favorite because I don't really know any group names.

I've heard some good a capella versions of Dave Matthews Band songs. It was really random, but good!

Doo-wop sort of stuff? Like it.
Showtunes? Forget it.

5. Yes, in all different genres: |
|
doo-wop, folk, world, jazz, classical.
This year, I've gotten to hear two of the greatest a capella groups: The King's Singers (6 men from England) and Chanticleer (12 men from San Francisco). Both do a mixture of classical and pop music.

7. As Duke Ellington said |
|
There are two kinds of music: good and bad.
So the question is: Is it done well? If so, then I love it. If no, that's a different story.

8. For A While in 1943, A Capella Music Was All There Was |
|
There was a muscians's strike in 1943, at the height of the Big Band Era. Singers like Dick Haymes, Perry Como, and Frank Sinatra were only able to keep recording when accompanied by a capella singers. PRobably the most famous of these a capella recordings was Dick Haymes' "You'll Never Know", on which he was backed by a group called the "Song Spinners".

For a perfect example, listen to the Persuasions sing "Looking For An Echo" some time.
