My swivel chair just attacked my cat!
I was sitting in it and Amos jumped from the bed onto the arm rest but he didn't complete the jump and fell to the floor, the claws on his forepaws embedded deep into the upholstery. I helped him get his right paw out but couldn't extract one last claw on his left. He was all twisted around and crying. I knew that one quick swivel of my ass could have damaged his little cat wrist so I got out of the chair slowly, got around behind him and lifted him up to relieve the pressure. I finally freed the claw and he ran onto the computer desk, then back onto the empty chair which, to his suprise, now swung around wildly. I brought him downstairs and watched him run around to make sure he was ok.

So, should I shoot the evil chair, clip Amos's claws or go to the dump like I'm supposed to be doing right now?

1. Have a beer and marvel at the
imponderableness of life.

3. Not an option
The beer part, I mean. So I went to the dump.

2. Clip claws before he gets caught on something else & dislocates a shoulder
trying to squirm free. I came home from work one day to a cat stuck to the carpet and so terribly twisted up, it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to even start to free her without breaking her leg. I have no ieda how long she was stuck and struggled, but she was happy to see me and pretty damned pitiful. She also wouldn't go down the hall (where the carpet is so evil) for about 3 days.

4. Alright, you convinced me to clip his claws
I used to do it regularly but neither of us was happy doing it. I found the clippers but still need to find the styptic powder.

6. Just trim the hook!
Never lower, unless you really know what your doing, and have a steady hand. Or were you joking? If so, sorry.

7. Fortunately, Amos has pretty transparent claws
I can actually see where the blood vessel ends pretty easily. Though I never bled him in the past, I always make sure I'm ready for it before I start.

8. Clip the claws and go to the dump
They aren't mutually exclusive. But everyone will appreciate your trip to the dump and his canine brother and sister will really appreciate any claw-clipping, a well as Amos, himself, since this must have been really have been scary to have been caught on the chair, like this. You have to keep this up, or have your vet do it. Just imagine what he would have gone through, if you hadn't been there to rescue him. Poor kitty.
:scared:

9. First, you must establish yourself as the dominant chair in the house, ..
let it know you are the alpha chair. Otherwise, it will remain in control, which could be very dangerous for anyone that has anything to do with it. Furniture dominance is a very important skill for all of us to learn. For so many reasons. Too many recalcitrant swivels, recliners, ottomans, and god knows what else are abandoned on scenic roadsides and crowded dumps every year. Do your part by taking the first, and establishing your role right away. Scent marking is optional,

10. I've seen those abandoned furnishings and it's sad
Someone may have loved them once but didn't take the time to socialize them properly. They're just dumb pieces of wood, fabric and stuffing -- they don't know any better!

11. I see a lot of rescued furnishings in my city.
Some kind people drive around and literally just pick them up off the street. Some reconditioning, then off to a new home. A rescued chair is a grateful chair. It's heartwarming.
