What are your top 3 favorite TV shows of all time? |
|
I love a lot of the oldies for nostalgic reasons, but I think these more recent ones are the best I've ever seen:
1) Strangers With Candy
2) Sex and the City
3) Arrested Development

5. I love 'All In The Family' |
|
I was trying to balance classic with contemporary, but it isn't easy. I try to catch reruns on TV Land, and think Carroll O' Connor (a great liberal, btw) was an amazing actor.

Closely followed by Dragnet, the Waltons, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. I also liked the Mod Squad and still like ER.

2. Not much of a TV fan, but... |
|
if I had to choose, I'd say
1) Star Trek (the original)
2) Star Trek: TNG (only up until Roddenberry's death)
3) Twilight Zone
Want to put in plugs for NOW with Bill Moyers, Frontier House, Sesame Street, and Antiques Roadshow, but can't honestly say they're in my top three. They're 4, 5, 6, and 7, though.

Berman wrecked the franchise after 1991. Twilight Zone is a timeless classic, love the marathons on Sci-Fi!

25. The new Twilight Zone |
|
I discovered the new Twilight Zone on NBC at 7:00 on Sunday. I tape it on one TV while watching 60 Minutes on the other.
The show is very well done. The host, while completely different from Rod Serling, still has a dry, deadpan delivery that works wonderfully. If you loved the original, you won't be disappointed in the new version.

11. Yes, [Prime] Minister |
|
a sitcom set in the private office of the Minister for Administrative Affairs, who becomes Prime Minister eventually (for 2 more seasons); all about the interplay of politician and civil servant.
The House of Cards trilogy. A wonderful set of three series charting the rise to power, and maintanance thereof, by Francis Urquart - who descends to utter amorality to preserve his own grip.
Get back to you on the third - several contenders to be whittled out.

33. Far more than 3, I'm afraid |
|
But I suppose, after some meditation, that these would be among the tops in my list:
Stargate SG-1
Star Trek: TOS
Man From UNCLE
Stargate because it's smart, great characters, most of the time great stories and stars Richard Dean Anderson. That means, too, that MacGyver would be in my top 5 as well.
Star Trek because it was instrumental in getting me into both science fiction and fandom, as well as other facets of fandom, such as zines, conventions and much, much more.
Man fron UNCLE because I had a major crush on Napoleon Solo for years. (What can I say? I was 10!) I always enjoyed watching the show, even years later watching reruns.
Many others through the years, but these will always top the list.

Sports Night had so much potential, but it was cut down by the network bigwigs for some reason. The same could be said for Futurama (one of the best "adult" cartoons ever, but killed by FAUX's time slot policies).
Seinfeld + The Simpsons are self-explanatory.
