Removing Bumper Stickers!
How the hell do you get those damn things off? I must admit - I hated the idea of bumper stickers and never had one until this year, when I felt compelled to put some anti-Bush, pro-Kerry ones on. Now I want to replace them, but they are a real pain in the ass to remove!

Any tips?

1. If you have a power outlet within extension cord range of your car
a blow dryer will warm up the glue just enough so it peels right off with no hassles.

You can also use Goo Gone to remove adhesive residue, but if it's on a painted surface, it could screw up your clear coat.

If they're on a rear window or something, a single edged razor blade will take them right off.

2. hair dryer
heat up the sticker slowly, peeling it off bit by bit. Or try the Goo Gone stuff.

5. I vote for Goo-Gone
There are actually a couple of similar products. They're all citrus oil and a few have some turpentine or mineral spirits mixed in.

Test a tiny bit on a hidden spot of your bumper first.

6. I used a two inch, plastic putty knife.
But, it's not very pretty now.

8. Duct tape -- this works for those damned windshield stickers, too:
I've done this many times. It works.
1. Get a roll of that grey duct tape and pull off about 9 inches of it.
2. Smooth about 2/3 of the strip of tape over one of the short ends sticker. Make sure that you smooth down an overlap of at least one inch from the sticker's edge. Also, leave enough tape to get a good grip on it!
3. Grip the loose end of the tape, and then rip it off in one stroke. Many pieces of the sticker should come off.
4. Repeat until the sticker is gone.

10. Not unless your paint is already chipping.
If you are not already losing paint, it won't. This works by pulling up the edges of the sticker, so I would bet that if you have paint missing, it would pull some off. But I have never had that happen.

11. For future reference, wash and wax your car before applying
A good wax job makes a smooth, slick, even surface for flawless application AND
it makes removal much easier AND
it protects the paint underneath and around the sticker.

The wax protects the paint around the sticker so you do not get uneven fading while the sticker is in place, and when you remove the sticker it is less likely to damage paint that is under a wax layer.
