Why does the crap music from good bands become popular?

I was looking around at some 54-40 stuff... a band I love. ANd all the most popular stuff is their worst material. It always seems that way. Why?

I don't care what Wat_tyler says...54-40 is awesome

the lower-quality music is what the record companies think is more accessible to the masses. They really think we're stupid.
