Bands I got into recently |
|
U2 and Steely Dan.
I've had U2's Best of 1980-1990 for ages, but never really got into it beyond the biggest hits. Then, for Christmas, I got their new CD (which I didn't like that much, actually) and Best of 1990-2000, which I loved. From then until now, I've gotten The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and All That You Can't Leave Behind. I think I like their 90's-and-later material better than their 80's output, but I don't have much to compare it to.
As far as Steely Dan goes, I heard the brilliant "Josie" on the radio, bought Aja and A Decade of Steely Dan, and got hooked.
It feels really, really good to get into a new band/artist, doesn't it?

1. Get "Boy" and "War" by U2 |
|
Those were the two albums that "made" them in the early 80s. "New Years Day" from War is one of my all-time favorites, and basically sums up their entire sound pre- "Joshua Tree". Also, if you can find "Live At Red Rocks", you're in for a treat: some of the most visceral rock and roll performances by a unique young band who was still 'hungry', before the mega-success of "Joshua Tree".
