74. It Is Not
It's actually a well-done feelgood movie, and i think it might have particularly strong connections for musicians.

But, it's NOT a terrible movie. You may not have liked it as much as the other poster or i, but that's a matter of taste, not quality. There's a difference, right?

The series really was wonderful, and Colin Firth is excellent in it.

I'll watch almost anything with Colin Firth in it! I even like "Love, Actually" b/c he's in it (and, well, the movie is cute).

And, I love Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility. I'll watch that one over and over and over and...

31. The Quiet Man,
It's John Wayne, it's syrupy, it's a cliched protrayal of Ireland and the Irish, it should be awful..... but I love it.

It's John Ford
It's Maureen O'Hara (drool)
and there's one line I should detest
"here's a stick, Sorrr, to be bating the luvely lady."
as if Maureen would stand still for such a thing.

I want to know what the final line of the movie is. It's not audible. The legend is that Director John Ford told Maureen O'Hara to whisper this into John Wayne's ear, just before they skip off to the cottage during the final credits. From the look on Wayne's face it wasn't something he expected to hear.

I absolutely go nuts over this movie; perhaps because I saw the musical on Broadway in the 70s :)

Or perhaps just because it's so Very Well Done.

I don't get weepy...but parts of it DO give me chills.

No need to disavow favoring it, IMO. :)

58. I love the crappy disaster films
The sort where some international terrorists (with dodgy east-European accents) have a nuclear bomb on a train &c.&c.&c.

They're all totally formulaic, and one can almost count down the number of times that the rescue attempt fails before finally succeeding. Always an alpha-male forced to work with a woman, he hates the idea at first, but then their in each others' arms at the end - alternatively alpha-male is divorced and bad relationship with his ex and her new partner.
