stopping smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done. But once free of the shitty weed I felt waaay better and smelt a little sweeter. If you want another good reason to quit - deforestation >>> http://www.tobaccofactfile.org/results_new.php?view=yes&id=194&language=englishAnd this shows what a bunch of evil, cynical bastards the tobacco industry comprises. You'll need Acrobat reader to open some of the files >>> http://www.marketing.strath.ac.uk/ctcr/index.htm

It gets easier if you really want to quit. At first I was climbing walls but with the help of Hall mentholypyus cough drops(I smoked menthols), and chewing plastic coffee stirrers, I now have no desire to smoke. If I can do it you can do it. Congratulations!

If you've really convinced yourself that this is the time for you to quit, you can do it. The mindset has a tremendous amount to do with it.
I haven't had one since September (patches). Every day I just tell myself I'm not having one today, then I concentrate on something else until the craving goes away. It's worked so far.
Best of luck to you both!

I thought I couldn't live without my Marlboro Reds. I just didn't want to spend the money anymore. sadly it was more because of that factor than it was for health reasons. I did it cold turkey too. good luck ITS HARD but doable!

I have taken care of many smokers, any time you want motivation I can tell you about all the radical neck dissections, lung resections, feeding tubes, tracheal suctioning, etc. I've dealt with.
Nasty shit. You are doing yourself a big favor by avoiding it.

54. congratulations!!! that's wonderful! |

my husband and i are both smokers and our second attempt at quitting was on december 30th. we used both the patch and gum to help us with the nicotine withdrawal while we tried to get rid of the physical habit of picking up a cigarette without even thinking about it. we made it for five days without smoking (which we are still very proud of). we decided that we were going to try again with a different approach since the idea of fighting the nicotine withdrawal at some point in the future was driving us crazy. so we talked to our sifu (we take private kung fu lessons and our sifu is our teacher) and he gave us some suggestions. we don't smoke inside the house or car anymore and that has cut us back from 2 packs a day each to (at most) half a pack a day each. one of the things that has been so helpful to me (when i get a craving but i know i should fight it) is to remember that those cravings are just sensations, like a headache or soreness or even sadness. once i lumped cravings into the category of other unpleasant feelings, they became a lot less demon-like and i was reminded that cigarettes aren't the friends that the nicotine has brainwashed my subconscious into believing.
be strong!! you want long lives together! you don't want to be stinky! you'd rather spend your money on other things! you are not powerless, those cigarettes do not have to control your life.
i'll be sending all the good thoughts i can muster your way.
