Age and satire
Okay. So when we'all get older, are we more prone to enjoying satire? Or hating it, preferring to be crotchety old whiners?

1. I've always enjoyed satire
starting with "That Was the Week That Was" back in 1963, when I was 12. I still enjoy it today.

3. I enjoy it more now
probably because I am far more likely to get it.

When I was in high school we had to read some Swift (the stuff about the poor selling their babies to the rich for them to eat) and I was pretty horrified by it. It didn't help that my teacher made no effort to explain anything, just growled at us because we didn't get it. Gave us no historical context or anything.

Now, though, if I read satire I don't get, I WANT to get it and I want to understand the context in which it was written, etc.

I think satire abso-fucking-lutely ROCKS hard.

5. Satire...
... is subtle, and to get it, you often have to understand the underlying factual basis for the satire to a greater degree than does one need to get the point of parody or a lampoon. The best available lesson on political satire is, of course, Swift's "A Modest Proposal," because it so densely attacks English mannerisms as well as policy, but it takes a fair amount of background in the facts to get all the barbs.

So, to answer your question, the accumulation of knowledge certainly lends itself generally to a greater appreciation of satire. If you learn much over time, satire is more enjoyable. :)

Cheers.

6. I find satire improves as I age. Especially cartoons.
Things take on new layers of meaning.
