also the MSM ran the Rather story, and still runs it, to give cover up to the real issue which is: Did W legally serve in the National Guard?
Where are the reporters? This story is dead and the MSM helped kill it.

4. Saw a good analysis on Media Matters |

Sorry, don't have the link, but I'm sure you can find it at www.mediamatters.org
But, several years back, CBS & 60 Minutes rushed a story on the air using a very questionable person as its source who revealed very embarrassing information about then president Bill Clinton. This woman, Kathleen Willey, was later proven unreliable & a liar. However, there was no investigation by CBS and/or 60 Minutes, nobody was fired and there was no public apology. With Rather's story, nothing was denied or disproved about the main charges, just one witness that was 'icing on the cake' was not vetted as thoroughly as he should have been.

5. In the context of the times... |

... Willey's being thrust into the news was highly political--further evidence from the far right wing of Clinton's moral turpitude, and, as you say, there was absolutely no self-examination on CBS's part about politicizing the news.
In the case of Mary Mapes, her chief crime seems to have been "politicizing the news" by introducing Bill Burkett to the Kerry campaign. As she herself admits, it was a mistake, but was incidental to the facts of the story.

The truth about W's service doesn't matter. Whether CBS used questionable tactics against Clinton doesn't matter. Dan Rather's longstanding career doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that CBS tried to say something about Bush. That is a thoughtcrime and all of CBS should be destroyed. Bush must be protected at all costs. Bush is perfect in every way. Bush is better than everyone else. Bush was there on 9/11 and is now above reproach about anything forever. All of humanity must now bow down to Our Savior Bush.
