9. Only here.
I liked it. I didn't take it seriously at all, just viewed it as a live-action comic book and accepted it for what it was, flaws and all.

7. for some reason everyone hates Titanic.
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 01:40 PM by tigerbeat
i happen to like the movie. it runs counter to most movies i tend to like (terry gilliam movies, scifi, anything by yimou zhang or alexander payne)..and billy zane's performance is as broad as his eyeliner ..and maybe it's because i have a serious thing for kate winslet, but i quite enjoyed the movie. (it shouldn't have one the oscar though. LA confidential was the best movie that year.)

edited to actually include my opinion on zane's performance.

10. I don't hate it.
It's sappy in spots, and over the top sometimes, but I liked it too. And I do enjoy watching Billy Zane.

16. Joe Versus the Volcano
The BEST Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan romance ever! :)

Great almost-cameos by people like Lloyd Bridges, Ossie Davis, Abe Vigoda, and Nathan Lane.

Hanks/Joe is convinced he has a terminal disease and is convinced by Bridges' character to go out like a man and jump into a volcano to appease an angry god of an island tribe called the Waponis (whose island contains a valuable mineral Bridges needs). At the opening ceremony of the sacrifice, the tribe leader (Vigoda) claps his hands to begin it, and two Waponis swing in on vines and slam their bodies into giant gongs and then are hauled away on bamboo stretchers while Vigoda gives a look like, "How did I get to be chief of these people." I love that part.

19. To this day the first shot of Abe Vigoda makes me do a spit take
and I know it is coming. Some great lines in that movie (see my post above) including Joe's boss "I didn't say that if I said that I would be wrong I didn't say that". I was in the Army when I first saw it and we all thought that was the epitome of Army thinking.

20. What's funny for me now is
I work as a programmer for a small website company, and the designer and one of the other programmers both like it as well. The programmer has wav files of Joe saying, "I have a brain cloud," and one time I was in the designer's office, and the boss had his door open arguing with a difficult client and going around in circles, and the designer started doing his impersonation of that character by saying, "I'm not arguing that with you! I'm not arguing that with you!"

Did you notice the symbolism of the mask of the evil spirit that one of the Waponis wears looks like the front of Joe's company he worked for at the beginning of the movie?

24. The wide show of the Waponis
Climbing the volcano with their torches lit is also in the same shape as the sidewalk outside of Joe's company. :)

17. Eraserhead...
...by David Lynch. Very, very strange movie. Saw this by myself, and was able to get into it. Some friends saw it with a group of people - nobody was able to get into it at all since a few of the people in the group were ragging on it from the very beginning.

99.9% of everyone I know who has seen this movie can't stand it.

Not the animated one on Bullwinkle. First and only time I watched a video and in 5 minutes after the credits, I turned it, rewound it, and returned it immediately.
