I am taking my son out sledding.
Feel free to regale me with any odd sledding stories you have. Hopefully not too scary.

and not little thin sheets, talking about at least an inch or two thick. Well, it um, hurts (esp if you made nice little ice ramps)

2. in my youth, not recently |

but then again, I seem to remember my neighbors using TV screens of some type... hope they were plastic! ( It was the 60s and safety didn't seem to be big on anyone's list of concerns)

"Rosebud" runner sled with waxed runners.
We get to the big sledding hill outside of town. A small fire smolders heating apple cider and water for hot chocolate. Big round hill, bare until you get to the hedges at the bottom then bail out.
All is right with the world. Enjoy.

all the drunk college kids converge to the only hill in town. However that hill also doubles as the grassy area between the on/off ramp and the highway. It's a small miracle that nobody has been killed!

7. The Flexible Flyer down Gas Line Hill |
|
Gas Line Hill was what we called the gash cut though the nearby forest, down a steep ravine that ended at a creekbed. There was a gas line buried underneath, supposedly.
It was a long, fast ride, with some difficult ruts. We ended up hitting them so hard that we bent the runners on the sled.

11. that is similar to my experience |
|
the park in my town ascended to a big hill with lots of trees. We used to toboggan down from way up there... not sure how we survived!

The best sled I ever used was an old appliance box. Wax coated cardboard.
We could stack 4 or 5 of us inside. Nothing but laughter.

people used cafeteria trays when I was in college. I saw some big aluminum trays today in the park where we went. My son even went down the hill a time or two alone!

always try to do something fun when school is closed. We had a great time and he sledded a little bit on his own. It was a lot of fun to watch all the folks in the park - older couples, little and big kids, snowboarders, etc. It was cool! :hi:
