Is it safe to eat pepperonis which have been in an open package at room temp for 4 days? I don't know much about this kind of thing, and I don't want to get sick.

You should throw them away, just to be safe.

7. What kind of pepperoni? |
|
In real delis, you see salami and pepperoni hanging from the ceiling for weeks at a time all the time...

I'm beginning to think you should just toss the food... I would hate to be the one person whose advice you followed, and then you came down sick!

No matter how many preservatives it has, pathogens start forming within hours above about 40 degrees. Toss immediately.

12. You should eat it just because you'll get a cool buzz. |
|
a la Homer eating the 2 month old sandwich from behind the radiator.
Just watch out for the post-buzz hospital visit, I bet its brutal.

13. What do you mean by open? |
|
Do you mean that package had been previously opened or that the package was open for the entire 4 days? How dry is the meat? Did you buy it unrefrigerated or refrigerated? Are there lots of perservatives listed in the ingredients? On the otherhand, 4 days is quite a while in the perishable food world. I wouldn't even eat cheese that had been at room temperature for 4 days in a non sealed package. You probably wouldn't die and maybe wouldn't even get sick because of the dryness and perservatives but buying another package of pepperoni is a lot cheaper than a visit to the emergency room.

14. To be honest, fresh pepperoni is only mildly edible to start with |
|
I mean, it's made of pig's hooves and a load of synthetics.
