I just figured out, using the Titanic, who the Repubs & who the Dems |
|
would be:
The person locking the doors and keeping the service people from reaching the boats -- a Republican.
The service people trapped on the lower levels -- Dems.
The man giving up his seat to a woman or child -- Dem.
The person kicking women and children out of the lifeboats -- a Republican.
The man dressed up as a woman to get a spot on the lifeboat -- a gay Republican.

5. The comment wasn't serious, really. |
|
More a way of showing the absurdity of this kind of binary, black/white, us/them, either/or way of thinking. The world, and humans, are a lot more complicated than that.

7. SOme of them probably socialists and anarchists. |
|
And likely IWW members. There was a lot of social ferment among the "artistic" community during the 1st 2 decades of the century. TThe older ones would be likely to be upright Tories, royalist and C of E members, though. (We ARE talking about turn of the century England.)

9. It is odd how much America views England as an Allie, but is clueless |
|
about its considerable socialist influence.
Didn't know about the older Tories.

10. Unlikely that the White Star Line... |
|
would've hired socialists as senior musicians.
And, yeah, the history of socialism in the UK is largely unknown in the US...mainly all people know about is the largely failed nationalisation of industry under MacMillan, and nothing about the Fabian Society and the mine workers' strikes and so on....

11. I hope we're not talking just about "that" movie... |
|
because the story of the Titanic is quite a modern day cautionary tale.
But maybe another time.
As a guess, if there were those designations:
Joesph Andrews (builder) - Rep Capt. Edward Smith - Rep J Bruce Ismay (owner) - Rep Molly Brown - Dem John Jacob Astor/wife - Rep Emil Brandeis (1st class) -Rep Duff-Gordon husband/wife -Rep their servants -Dem Second class - 50/50 The band - Dem The wireless operators - Dem The crew - Dem Steerage - Dem

13. it was Thomas Andrews |
|
What makes you think he was a republican, I don't see it in him honestly. Remember he wanted more lifeboats. I can see Ismay and Smith but not Andrews.

I now see movies in these terms, too. I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off recently trying to figure out who were repukes and who were Dems. It was pretty easy in most cases.
