Best 50's Science Fiction Movie
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 10:39 PM by General Zod
I'll go with the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"
It still gives me the creeps, even after repeated viewings.

The scene where Kevin McCarty kisses Dana Wynter, only to realize she has been taken over by the pods, is still one of the most terrifying scenes in movie history.

Honorable mention: The Thing From Another World

1. I've always liked THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.
FORBIDDEN PLANET also was quite good. In fact, I have the soundtrack LP to that one!

13. YES! The Day the Earth Stood Still!
I'm amazed that everyone associated with that movie didn't get their asses majorly blacklisted!

... is the defacto best IMHO. It will be hard to beat, I can't think of another movie that worked like it did.

15. War of the Worlds is amazing!
The special effects were far beyond their time. They are still very good even by today's standards.

Cool movie!

23. It Came From Outer Space
It seems that Richard Carlson was in most of these. And there was always a woman friend dressed in a tight skirt and high heels who accompanied him to investigate the saucer landing site. She invariably sprained her ankle just as they had to beat it out of there and he had to carry her.

I grew up on these things.

24. The original version
of 1984. Saw it on late night TV about 1961. Much better, in my opinion, and the pretentious one made in the real year 1984.
