Hollywood star Virginia Mayo dies
"Actress Virginia Mayo, who starred alongside the likes of Ronald Reagan and Bob Hope in some of the biggest films of the 40s and 50s, has died.

Mayo, who was 84, began her career as a chorus girl, her big break coming when she starred alongside Bob Hope in 1944's The Princess and the Pirate.

She went on to sign a contract with the Warner Brothers studio, becoming one of its most popular stars.

Mayo also starred alongside James Cagney in the crime drama White Heat."

One of the best gangster films ever made...

Verna Jarrett: I'd look good in a mink coat, honey.
Cody Jarrett: You'd look good in a shower curtain.

1. Also a Star of...
..."The Best Years of Our Lives". A great movie, but not a particularly sympathetic character.

2. The movie she made with Ronald Reagan
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 10:28 PM by Finnfan
was called "The Girl From Jones Beach", and it also starred my grandfather, Eddie Bracken. It was, by all accounts, a terrible movie, but I do like to drop my grandfather's name every so often.

I'm sorry to hear of her passing. She lived a long life.

5. I love Eddie Bracken!
His timing and facial bag of tricks were amazing!

My daughter is a young makeup artist in Hollywood (working on her union card), and I've been educating her on actors whose careers spanned the decades. Unfortunately, she only knows Bracken because of "Home Alone" (II or III, I forget-- the one in New York) and in "Vacation."

He was great as Horace Vandergelder, the well known half-a-millionaire, on Broadway!

7. I remember that movie.
It's the first thing I thought of when I read the death notice.
She was a knockout, with legs up to here.
