2003-2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 4x4
Knowing that I need an AWD vehicle and knowing I don't want to pay for new, a friend suggested I get the foregoing. It looks good on the outside and seems to get ok gas mileage for its kind. Seems like I get get one with pretty low mileage for a relatively good price. But Edmunds seems not to like this car(truck) very much. What do you think?

2. Or the Forester.
My wife has one - she loves it. Big time. Subarus are rock solid. People drive them forever. I can't really say the same about Mitsubishi, although it is true that you can get a second-hand one really cheap.

4. I drove a couple of them when looking for a small SUV.....
The thing that sticks out the most is the really, and I mean.....REALLY vague steering.

And the cockpit is quite cramped. I didn't like them at all.

I would highly recommend a Mazda Tribute if you're not going to be doing a lot of heavy-duty off-roading. They're the same as a Ford Escape more or less. CR-V's are nice too.

But the best handling AWD cute ute is the Saturn VUE. It's a bit spartan on the inside....but at least you don't feel like you're driving a semi.

5. Ford Escape Hybrid

City: 36mpg
Hwy: 31mpg

Personally, I own a 2002 Mits. Montero Sport 2wd. It's not a bad vehicle. I average 18/20 mpg (combined city/hwy driving) and have gotten 24mpg on long higway drives. It's a decent vehicle.

My next vehicle (after I finish paying off this one) will probably be the Escape Hybrid.
