I'm loving the new season of "24". Does that make me a racist?
I had never seen the show until this year, and I'm absolutely hooked. But the liberal in me can't help but feel guilty for being addicted to a show that unabashedly portays Arabs as murderous terrorists. I can't be the only DUer that watches this show and has this problem. Where's the line between good entertainment and propaganda disguised as entertainment?

2. No, it doesn't make you racist
I think it's kind of sad, though, that the mother in the terrorist family was nominated for an oscar for House of Sand and Fog, and this is the kind of follow-up she does? Not that there are a shit load of roles for middle eastern actors, but you know what I mean. She's good in the part, that's for sure.

Try not to read too much into it. It's an exciting, edge of your seat type show. If you haven't seen the first 3 seasons, I recommend you rent the dvds. I orginally watched season 1 on dvd and it is terrific. Plus you don't have to wait a week, especially with every episode ending in a cliff-hanger.

3. Apparently, the terrorists last season were Russian.
I don't think the show is about boxing Middle Eastern cultures into a terrorist category. ;shrug:

4. No. It does not.
"24" does so many twists and turns that we may never know who the true villains are until the last hour. Believe me, I had reservations about this season, especially after William Devane's character made that "Sixth-grade Michael Moore logic" crack. I have to say, though, the pacing of this season is way better and more realistic than season's past.

Except for the car fire last night. Do you really mean to tell me that firefighters responded to a car fire, had it extinguished and the body removed in a span of four minutes? That was a huge continuity flaw.

7. Excellent show, IMO the best current show on TV
And please remember, like Beware the Beast Man said, there are usually twists. Keep in mind a huge plot from a past season was Bauer keeping the administration from going to war in the ME based on false information.......hmmm, no connection to real life there. Granted, the Arazi family hasn't been portrayed as kind loving people so far, but I could also see the show attacking US foreign policy (via the trial of the Defense Secretary).

8. I'm loving this season as well so far
The terror family is a bit over the top though, especially terror mom. I'm waiting for terror teen to blow terror mom and dad away.

How about the Prez - has to be a Repuke. He just ordered his SecDef and SecDef daughter to be blown away so the good old USA isn't embarrassed?

I'm always amused that in the middle of trying to save the world CTU'ers still have time to play office politics.

Since 24 has had villains from all over the map and races I'll give them a pass on having middle eastern terrorists. I think it adds realism to the show.

So far I think except for the "didn't take my meds" CTU head's daughter this season has been better than the early episodes of past seasons. Guess they didn't want us to miss "can't stay out of kim-chi" Kim too much.
