Plastic Fantastic Lover
Her neon mouth with the blinkers-off smile
Nothing but an electric sign
You could say she has an individual style
She's part of a colorful time

Secrecy of lady-chrome-covered clothes
You wear cause you have no other
But I suppose no one knows
You're my plastic fantastic lover

Her rattlin' cough never shuts off
Is nothin' but a used machine
Her aluminum finish, slightly diminished
Is the best I ever have seen

Cosmetic baby plugged into me
I'd never ever find another
I realize no one's wise
To my plastic fantastic lover

The electrical dust is starting to rust
Her trapezoid thermometer taste
All the red tape is mechanical rape
Of the TV program waste

Data control and IBM
Science is mankind's brother
But all I see is drainin' me
On my plastic fantastic lover

1. Is it Marty Balin's birthday or something?
Or are you just in a surrealistic pillow kind of mood today?

2. :-) Just a reminder how 36 year old lyrics seem more interesting than
most anything written today.

Drugs or otherwise.

3. Couldn't agree more
Did you see my post on your other Airplane thread?

Also, these days I'm obsessing over Smile, which was written 38 years ago. Do you know Van Dyke Parks' solo album Song Cycle? Amazing stuff...

5. Yup - cool lyrics. Found a page with a lot more too!

Including:

America

Sing a song of America
Once she was a young girl with her heart on fire
Born in the dust of the magic of history
It all goes on yeah the dream goes on

Streets of gold
Streets of wonder
Streets of people growing stronger
Revolution and voices of thunder
It’s a new world
New people
New dreams for all the children
Young country
New Love
New dreams of freedom

And it all goes on
Yes it all goes on
And it all goes on
In America
In America

In the streets of America
Back in the summer of ‘85
I met a young girl her heart was in flames
Jenny Bowen was her name

She was a California girl
War had changed her whole world
Her daddy died in Vietnam
She lost her husband in Lebanon
She was drivin’ back to Washington
To get a medal for a job they’d done
From the President of the United States of

And it all goes on
Yeah the dreams go on
In America

Something’s happening in America
Can you feel it
Can you feel it comin’
It’s like the Green Party in Germany
Young people with visions and dreams
In Nicaragua n’ Chile, Poland and South Africa
Freedom brewing it’s an uphill dream
Don’t be afraid of anything
Don’t be afraid of anyone
Young men are dreaming and young girls believing
And asking questions like

Where are the frontiers?
How do I get there?
There are no maps
There are no roads
Just you and me on these streets of gold

And it all goes on
Yes it all goes on
And it all goes on
And on and on and on and on and on and on

Streets of America
Streets of America

D.C.B.A. - 25
(Paul Kantner)
Jefferson Airplane

It's time you walked away and set me free--
I must move away, 'n' leave you be.
It has been good to us my friend,
Wait, and see how it will end.
We come and go as we please.
(Grace: We come and go as we please)
(Paul: That's how it has to be).

Here in this ocean, the near and holy,
Too many days I've left unstoned.
If you don't mind, happiness
Purple pleasure-fields in the sun
Ah don't you know I'm runnin' home
(Grace: Don't you know I'm runnin' home)
(Paul: To a place, for you unknown).

I take great peace in your sitting there(1).
Searching for myself, I find a place there(2).
I see the people of the world,
Where they are and what they could be.
I can but dance behind your smile
(Grace: I can but dance behind your smile)
(Paul: To (the) other world---to me, for a while)
